PSP Ramping Question

I've searched a variety of forums and read the stickies here and wasn't able to find an answer to my question.

I heard a while ago that the PSP ramping on the Mini is different than other high-end guns and isn't the best for PSP play. I believe the person was claiming this had something to do with the number of trigger pulls required/bps to put the gun in ramping mode.

From what I found, it seems that all guns require 4BPS to be pulled before the gun enters ramping mode. Once in ramping mode it fires a max of 13.33(according to PSP rules), or less depending on what ROF is set at (12.5, 13, etc).

So, is there any difference between Mini PSP Ramping and Ego, Luxe, PMR, Shocker, etc.

Disclaimer: certain terminology may not be exactly correct. If you're having issues with some of it, I'll try to clarify.

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond!

I can't speak for other guns, but I do know the Mini and the PSP rules.

The old PSP rule was that the user had to maintain 4 pulls per second, and after 3 semi shots the gun would ramp up to, at that time, 15 bps. This is what the Mini stock board's PSP mode is.

The new PSP rules are that if the user maintains at least 1 pull per second, that after 3 semi shots the gun would then shoot 3 shots per pull of the trigger at 13.33 bps. It's basically now a 3 shot burst.

Thanks for the response!

Just to clarify though:
The Mini's stock board is set to the old PSP rules of 4 triggers pulls per second in order to maintain a ramping mode/ rate of fire of 15 bps (which I assume can be dropped to 13/12.5 to be in compliance with the new PSP rules) after the initial 3 semi shots to achieve ramping.

VS.

Newer guns/boards are set to have a 1 trigger pull per second = 3 round burst up to 13.33 BPS after ramping mode is achieved by shooting 3 semi shots.

And that's where the main gripe about the Mini's PSP setting comes into play (no "3 round burst", just 4 triggers pulls per second to ramp to 15bps) ??

i don't know who's griping, but you got it.

additionally, the Empire Tadao board for the Mini includes the new PSP burst as well as the old PSP ramp, but the first release had a maxROF of only 14 bps and up. newer releases have 10 bps and up, and Tadao will reflash the board per their website.

hmm...
Thanks harry I didn't know that.
I thought the stock board had 3shot too... oh well.
The 3 shot burst is actually pretty cool, that is one of the very few complaints I have about the 7th Element board.

Thanks for all the help! I really appreciate it.

Also, have you (anyone) found the stock board to be a hindrance in competitive PSP style play?

I have played in a couple of tournaments with the stock board and I don't have any complaints. The burst would be nice, but it is nothing that you can't easily deal with, because if you can't maintain 4 BPS then you probably shouldn't be playing paintball.

I figured it wouldn't be an issue. Seems like a pretty easy requirement to hit. I just wanted to make sure though.

Thanks for all the input!

The tournements I have played in have been 3 man semi uncapped. But my sons and I did a 5 man that was PSP capped at 15 and even for an old man like myself I had no problem maitaining that. Also I beleive that Fatalkitty's (in this forum) team all use mini's in their tournies that they paly in Cali.

I think fatalkitty's team uses aftermarket boards exclusively though.

7thElement board (or any board for that matter) a necessary/recommended upgrade for competitive tournament play? Or depends on the level of play?

I'd say it depends on your level of play. really the boards just make things easier, stock board is suitable for all levels of play
