I always preferred the full shin guards instead of just the knee pads...just me though

Play at team practice and see what you need. If your knees/elbows hurt, get some real pads. If you run out of paint a lot, buy a pack that holds more pods. It's all trial and error.

i think pads can wait. i lasted without them. all you really need is a reliable and good gun. sturdie good hopper. a good mask. a 4500psi tank.( 1 or more). pod packs are musts. you will shoot alot. and cleats help alot.( ecpesialy in rain.) the rest is only wants.

you need the elbow pads for sure, if you slide a lot then get knee pads. I use volleyball knee pads because they work better and are cheaper than paintball knee pads

This. Most tounaments let you get away without a mask.

pads are totally choice... Ive played competitve tournament ball for 5 years now and dnt need pads. I slide, dive, and do the works and i never felt i NEEDED them. If you have the extra cash they will help. A vice i a good gun i dnt see the need to run to an ego right now. Win some tournamnets, make some cash , get good then throw away the extra money for a highER end gun

There's alot of little things that many forget but which are of high importance...

- Your gun's 'kit' (replacement o-rings, spare parts, etc)
- Tools (hex wrenches, socket set, screwdriver, etc)
- Barrel squeegees
- Paper towels and/or clean rags (to wipe off your gear and yourself between games)
- Extra undershirts (you'll sweat right through them)
- Lube and/or oil
- Q-tips (to clean more than just your ears)
- Extra batteries (for your gun, your hopper, etc)
- Folding table and/or folding chair
- First Aid Kit

You'll add the obvious gear as you go along; the pads, the extra masks, the back-up guns. But don't forget the small stuff. You forget that easily forgettable list of gear and your tourney will suck.

And, of course... fluids for hydration and food.

Agreed. Most newer paintball pants have enough padding built in. Same goes for jerseys. But if you're playing in old gym sweats, you may need to buy a cheap pair of knee pads from Champion or some off brand. No one'll see them, so don't worry - you'll still look rad.

It also may depend on the surface you're playing on. Is it a concrete indoor field with minimal turf surface? Is it frozen tundra of the Winter-ed north? Is it dry and cracked hard dirt?
