SEC Class A 2010-2011 Discussion Thread

Well as it looks from the bids thread, it will be:

Tennessee
Liberty
Virginia Tech
Kennesaw (?)

This is looking to be a good season for all of us, especially is Kennesaw gets accepted. But I think we go ahead and start discussing dates now and also get everyone's updated information and a contact.

I think it's beneficial to have the Liberty event maybe when it would be warmer. Just a preference because it was super cold last year! Other than that we might actually be getting a field right near our campus with XBall capabilities but we may have to have our event 2nd semester.

I'll send PM's with my contact info once we get going.

As for events if y'all think you might have a field by second semester maybe we should wait till you find out to decide where to hold the last event. As for Liberty event how bout doing that one first, and then the middle event could be somewhere further south between us and Kennesaw to keep things somewhat warm. It all would really depend on who is out 4th.

Agreed about the Liberty event and our event's placement. We will just wait and see how finalized everything gets.

I am completely open to any/all events being held on our campus.
Definately don't want another event with 2ft of snow on the field the week before...
I say:
1st event- LU
2nd event- Rockhill? NOT WITH CFOA!
3rd event- New Tenn field, or at LU if that falls through...
I am just thinking out loud. VT, do you guys have a field you would suggest?

Well I know a lot of the guys were in favor of Pevs, but we aren't affiliated with them in any way so I'm not really gonna work at it to do them any favors; plus that field would have the same issues as LU.

Rockhill or Charlotte would probably be good for event 2, but it'd really depend on what is going on with other series and whats going on with our 4th.

I like Todd's suggestion. And definitely Rock Hill minus the CFOA, i hated that crap. But I am hoping to hear more from our land owner this week and we will get more information from you guys, but honestly it would still be the last event before we would be ready.

But LU first definitely.

Very true Micah.
I was thinking about the level of competition in our conference, it is like the finals at Semi-Finals of Nationals every event...
I want to see an all SEC final this year. With us winning of course...

I was told by Joe that the SEC will not have a Class A. What's the deal? Where are the events going to be held?

Yeah but the conference names have to be consistent in class A and AA. Last year we were the Mid Atlantic Conference (MACC) and there was also a Mid-Atlantic Conference (MACC) in class AA.

There is already an SECC for AA so now we are the class A SEC. Plus Tennessee is a true SEC school anyway.

So it is up north? Just want to make sure because we opted out of Class A just because of the distance. They said we'd have to be driving at least 12 hours and that would be the shortest.

One event is going to be here at Liberty... which is probably the furthest. (don't know distance/time)

Well odds are good that the closest would be 6, but the rest would be AT LEAST 12. But now that the MACC is a further north conference, the only option for our name is SEC.

I did not say there wouldn't be an SEC conference. I did say that you guys were on the far geographic bounds of the conference, and were looking at a minimum 6 hour drive (Tennessee) and up to 12 hour drive (Liberty) for every event.

Would all the events be held in NC, SC, VA? I guess I am just thinking of where the schools are... UT is not a bad drive from us and Kennesaw is about the same as UT, so the only long hauls would be to VT and LU.

BUT, if the events are all, or mostly, being held in the East coast states, then that does change things a bit.

Its too bad that we are going to have to sit this out just because of distance.

One thing that concerns Joe I'm sure is having a team drop out of the conference. We had this happen last year with Clemson and it really caused some problems in the conference. All I know is that we didn't just jump into a conference when we wanted to do Class A. We started slow, the first two years by playing World Cup and getting our Nattys bid there.

I think that would be the best move for Ole Miss. Generally teams that have never played in the Class A division and then jump in a conference end up backing out. Like I said, UT played World Cup two years in a row to play Nationals and that was a much better option for us, Ole Miss has never played Class A, and I feel like that would be a good way to get the feel of how things are going to happen.

Yeah- its fine. We have had some serious discussions amongst ourselves and that is pretty much the same conclusion that we have come to. Hopefully next year we will be joining you all.

Good question. Should we do nominations and vote or is there some other way?
