Extremely high dwell settings?

hey everyone, just needed to feed my curiosity.

since the fuse bolt will only shoot out a set volume of air per shot, after a while, doesnt increasing the dwell past a certain point stop having any effect on the marker?
i.e. once the gun has enough time to shoot out the entire volume of air in the dump chamber, doesn't dwell stop effecting the performance of the marker?

just satisfying my curiosity, thanks for the help.

ya, i heard somewhere it was around 22-23. hence alot of people use the 21 setting when trying to lower the lpr as much as possible.

awesome, i really wish i still had my DMs lying around to try out a super high dwell. i doubt the efficiency would drop below a usable level. even 6 pods would be more than enough...

thanks for the help guys

I run my seven at a dwell of 21 and LPR of 4 1/2- 4 and don't really notice the big effciency drop...After all air is free!

I have a custom Dm4 I run the dwell at 30ms and the LPR at 1.25 turns out. Efficiency is still decent and now I have no need for abs. Otherworldly smooth and quiet.

Millatyme, I too have ran my dm4 at 30 ms of dwell, it shot great.

From my experience, Raising the dwell has a small effect on velocity. from what ive seen raising the dwell to about 20 raises the veocity only about 5-10 fps from the stock 18, and after that its really insubstantial.
however, it affects more than just the volocity. raising the dwell past the point where it affects the FPS gives the bolt more time to move, meaning you an lower the lpr Alot, since the lower pressure air still works because it has a longer time to actualy to its work.
which makes the gun alot quieter and softer on the ball

ive never done a test on it, but efficiency doesnt seem to be really affected much either, if anything it might be improved since the lpr is lowered.

I've ran at 27 dwell for quite awhile. I could get the LPR 1.25 turns out with no FSDO. People really frown on dwell being that high because it goes against the norm.

I didn't like it because it felt too much like a toy. You couldn't hardly tell it was shooting so I lowered it back down a little and upped the LPR so I got some feedback when I shot.

Also, that was on a DM7

18 is stock.
the high dwell just results in the gun running as smooth as possible, thats all.

Just curious, what did you drop it back down to?

22 and somewhere around 3 turns or so. I need to re-do it but I've been having a lot of back to back weekends where things were on the line so I couldn't tinker and risk drop off in a game

they all shoot amazing i might experiment with a higher dwell say at 23. im pretty sure it should be limited at around 23.

I Dont think its bad for the gun to have high dwell

only think i could think of would be battery life being shortended and lower ROF's at high dwell

At very low LPR settings, the bolt moves too slow for the normal settings to work, hence upping the dwell enables you to go even further down on the lpr. to empty the dump chamber as the OP asks, will only take 7-8ms, the rest is needed for the boltmovement.
