Arkansas Paintball History

Keep the chit chat to a minimum. Just facts and dates and names and places about fields and teams and stores and anything relating to paintball in Arkansas.

I believe the earliest commercial field was located in Russellville. Razorback Paintball, right around the early 90's and open till around 96. It was an indoor field, not sure if they had an outdoor field. It was run by Duke and his wife and I'm drawing a horrible blank on her name and their last name. Two great people. Someone help me out. (I would love to see some pictures.)

paintball originated in arkansas, not joking, some old guy made them to mark cows or trees, there was a newspaper article some time ago. any who reminiscing is neat and all but, arkansas paintball hasn't progressed enough to be nostalgic about its history

I meant on a really comptitive level, there was dirt at one time, brass eagle all stars, torque, and probably least of those JL, but thats my goal to create something arkansas can be proud to call the home team. I' ve been at it for 8 or so yrs and still have ambitious goals for tournament pb sry but i cannot recognize scenario and rec in my evaluation of arkansas pb thats not ma field of study anywho go to the JT pbsite there is a nice paintball timeline, nothing to do with ark.

I dont know a whole lot of the bigger bits of history but I was playing in West Helena before we were drawing 20 or more folks a day. This was back in..... '02-'03. Sometime after I moved south to Elaine ED W. stopped playing & someone tried to rent to building we had in downtown Helena.

I mainly stayed in Elaine running games til I moved up here & want to get back into playing more than ever.

Razorback paintball was located in Greenbrier AR (just outside of Conway) It was owned by Jeremy Fjeld.
Duke owned Black Rain Action Pursuit in Russellville AR the outdoor field was located on Crow mountain and then he opend the indoor in downtown Russellville a year or so later!
There was also a field in Pottsville AR (just outside of Russellville) called Ponchos it was partly owned and operated by Jason Day. They closed down shortly after the opening of Black Rains indoor

Dangerous Toys....yes.... I was trying to remember that name. Dangerous Toys became the Brass Eagle Allstars I believe. CYA was mostly a bunch of bad boys from across the border (Oklahoma)... they were some tough competition in the day.

Thanks for clearing up the Razorback/Black Rain history. I met Duke and his wife for the first time when they came down to Jacksonville for the grand opening of Rock and Rumble Indoor (around 98/99). I remember we ooohed and aaahed when they pulled (gasp) compressed air out of their gear bags. We pretty much owned the place. I was toting a Spyder Classic with a drop down 4 oz CO2 tank.

It was kinda scary. The staff was pulling brand new pro-lite rentals out of the boxes and couldn't get any of them to shoot under 300. After a couple of 6 packs they gave up and handed the guns out and the games began! That indoor field lasted about a year before folding.

I've forgotten the name of the field were the first APC State Championship was played. I believe CYA beat High Voltage. I remember Duke getting hit so hard and so many times on the top of the head during a bunker run that he was damn near knocked out.

The second State Championship was in Russellville. There was lots of controversy. The neutral team from out of state that was suppose to ref didn't show up. Maybe someone can help me out with the results of that one. I can only remember that Dale Palmer, playing for Gypsy Rain, played the last two games with a broken bone in his leg.

The APC fell apart during the third year, politics and lack of participation. Tournament ball never recovered in Arkansas.

Good to see you jumping in DirtyEd. It's been awhile!

Mick

Oh, MAN... and Ponchos! I've heard some stories about that place!!

I have to chime in. I'm old.
Let me see if I can remember all the teams from the APC

Dragonfire (yes we were bad, and had ultra cool uniforms)
Select Fire were from Lion's Den
High Voltage, Black, blue, and red were from Duke's field
Gypsy Rain/Point Blank from T2
Dangerous Toys, I think they were from Duck Ridge/Sand Ridge
Refs Gone Postal from Wild World
CYA from the Pure Energy field in OK
Kaos from Paintball Arkansas
I know there was at least 2 other teams who showed up for a couple of them, but I can't even remember who played on them. Did the Small Soldiers ever play in the APC? I really wish something like this would get started up again. Teams are just so freakin flaky.

Mick, I think Dale broke at least one bone in his foot every year he played. He was always playing hurt. The first APC at Wild World was the first tournament I had ever played. Kaos was the only team we beat that day. They were so hung over I don't think they were capable of doing much. It was a great day. One thing I remember the most about that whole series is how helpful Dangerous Toys was to my team. If we ever had gun problems, hopper problems, whatever, they would help us out. I really respected those guys for helping out a bunch of newbs. Has anyone spoken to Nate lately btw? I haven't heard anything from him in a long time.

Ed, I remember the first time Dragonfire beat High Voltage. It was like we had won the World series. Good Lord we sucked back then. There was no such thing as practice. Beating up on the local newbs was enough It is making me laugh just thinking about the way my whole team didn't care if we won anything else that day. I really miss watching Curtis play. He was a really good player. Have you spoken to Werm or Germ lately? I haven't heard anything about them in a while either. I know that Justin Owen graduated from UAMS with his degree as a brain cutter. I see a couple of the guys from Select Fire around every once in a while.

Ah, sweet memories.

I shot a girl for the first time on that field. I think she was playing for Select Fire. It was also at that field that I played on air bunkers for the first time. Brass Eagle brought out their version of the Sup'Air bunkers that had the air lines that connected all the bunkers. Those were some miniature bunkers!! Sometimes I really wish I was still new, and everything was fun again.
