They were originally going to have a Boston and a DC. This is common knowledge, and you should probably know that if you plan on disgussing the need for for seven man on the east coast. Nobody signed up so they canceled that event. Therefore there is now only a DC.

I find this statement funny, because MD is on the east coast. That's like saying the PSP had no West Coast event because there was no event in CA, OR, or WA.

Too many divisional tournaments making it easier for teams to compete in and still giving out amazing prizes and not enough time in between events for teams to collect enough money to go to all of them.. USPL will not die/should not die. There are alot of people who love 7man format and let them play!, Id say try an event in East coast and let them represent. Also i dont think that USPL an PSP compete. they are 2 different games, and if teams can they will play both, if not they will play 1 league. All the USPL needs is for people not to quit, and keep playing and watching! But I dont really see why it would hurt to lower the entry fees and costs if they can.. I dont think right now is a good time for a paintball company to try and get rich, but if it can survive it could grow to be the "#1" 7 man league. Or the 7 man format will probably crumble and not exist. They arent going to bring back 10 man, so if there is no more 7 man do you think they will bring it back??

With all due respect to Oliver and Brandon, they are not exactly impartial sources, and there are people and companies out there who, for good or bad reasons, take umbrage with the PSP. I'm sure if you interviewed some of the very inteligent people who started the USPL, they could give you a number of reasons why "PSP Xball and stuff" should not be the only league.
And how is it that the USPL is not doing their best to help the players?
And who is "The USPL guy"? I hope you have a name, otherwise, your post is more of a rant than credible commentary.

Hind site is 20/20. At the time the USPL was formed, there were a lot of teams lauding the effort. The fact that those teams have dropped off is something you can't reasonably have expected the USPL organizers to predict.
Rome was not built in a day. Regardless of the future of the USPL, perhaps the league will drive positive changes to the national scene. If the USPL can help mend fences between the PSP and some of the companies supporting the USPL, it would be a positive for the sport, and one that was not going to come about organically. And if the USPL remains and continues to grow, it will continue to provide an alternative for players.

You are probably right Jeff and we are working on the web site and venues and like the other leagues, we are working on ways to improve. The kid posting all this negative stuff on the USPL claims to be 16 years old, 6'6" tall and 220 pounds with 2 years of paintball and a total of three local xball events under his belt. He is now looking for a team. Although he seems to have a lot of negative feelings about 7 man and the USPL, he has not had much tournament paintball experience to draw from. I do not attack people for their opinions, however, I cannot help but wonder about the xball future of "Saediphoto" , a big kid for xball. I'm 100 percent for the sport regardless of what form you play, however, you may be find more success with 5 man or 7 man due to your build. Feel free to come give all of these formats a shot with us. We have a bunch of teams. Arsenal will be playing Millennium with Dynasty, PSP, AXBL and NPPL in multiple divisions in 2010. My goal has not changed.... to support the sport and to help people play paintball. Wish you all well. T4.

The first year for a league is always rough. The problem with players today is they want everything instantly and for cheap or free. The press is partly to blame, when you see pro's in the spotlight taking about their sponsors and the money they get for just playing paintball and especially kids see that and think "Wow I wish I could do that". So instead of using their head and realising that it takes time to get like that, they just go out and expect these local fields to hand them everything for nothing.
Remember when O-Lang got the 100,000$ deal from dye to play for the ironmen? The community as a whole was in an uproar. After that other players were starting to get deals and a good paintball team wasen't family grown anymore but who's pockets were deeper. Real players are the ones who go out every weekend and grind it out, not for money, they do it for the love of the game and they lifestyle paintball brings.
If your playing paintball to try and get rich off it then your a pure ****ing idoit and you are the ones who are slowly killing paintball.

Where did they try to hold it? Just curious, I wasn't really paying attention to what 7-man was up to.

This whole talk of what needs to happen and people need to give it a chance. These tournaments were doomed from last year.
Division 1 7-man entry $2,000
Division 2 7-man entry $1,850
Division 3 7-man entry $1,600
Division 3 5-man entry $950
And yes those are discounted prices. Thats just crazy for 7 people to play paintball for a cash prize amount. I dont even think the teams at this point care to win a cash prize. Go back to giving guns away or some stuff like that. And make a overall series prize.

Most people sell the gear they win anyway though.

What?! Tournament-style paintball setups are SO much cheaper now than what they used to be. Nowadays every company has their "high-end" brand and a "low-end" brand. (Dye/Proto, Eclipse/Etek, Empire/Invert etc..) Here's a break down of a set up that is not only affordable, but would out-perform any of the older equipment from '01-'03.
'09 PMR- $450
Generic or store brand CF 68/45- $100
Halo Too- $60
Invert Prevail pants/jersey/gloves- $100
track cleats- $20
NXE pod pack w/4 pods- $33
sandana/headband-$20
JT proflex-$60
____________
$843
In '03, Ir3's came out at $1500. Yes, that huge *** gun with no eyes blowing up paint at 15 bps was $1500. Or of course you could spend $500 on a mechanical autococker if you didn't have that kind of cash

A lot of these local/regional leagues are really well put together. PSP/USPL would have more east coast teams but we already have a ton of solid 5-man leagues all the way down the coast from the northeast to the south east.

I agree. There are VERY FEW people that make a living from playing paintball, and to think that they do is straight up moronic.
I think the problem with the sport is like you said, tournament kids want want everything for cheap/free. Why do you think most companies today are exploring the scenario market as well

this reasoning is flawed. Look at the performance difference in the mech cocker and the IR3. The innovation was HUGE and to compare it is just plain dumb.
The difference isn't even as big as buying an Ion and buying that 09 PMR you brought up.
