Definitely possible to spend $20k on a pair of front speakers if you buy the flagship speaker of a high end manufacturer like Wilson, Revel, etc.

An extreme example, yes, but very easy to spend a lot of money on a home audio setup. Even the nice best buy stuff will run you over $5k and if you go with premium brands you're probably closing in on $20k pretty quick.

Yep and I have a hard time discerning a difference from a 1500 dollar system to a 5000 dollar system. It only makes a difference if you're deaf as **** or your living room is the size of a theater.

I think he's talking single enclosure, unless the speaker is gigantic.

yeah, look up the revel salon 2 as an example. I think they are $20k a pair. My friend just got the studio 2s I think which are 1 step down. I believe they are $16k a pair.

yea, aux out of the tablet to aux in of my stock radio. Thankfully the aux in is located in my center console so the cable is hidden. I mostly use it for GPS/Tourqe/its cool

I guess single "enclosure." I hear that used in the car audio world though (which I know nothing about) in the home audio world (which I know a tiny bit about) it is common for a nice tower "speaker" to have multiple drivers. I have some fairly cheap towers (MSRP $400 each or so, but got them half off) and they have 3 drivers in them.

Yea but I want it to sound decent. I'll have to do some research and see if there are nicer ones.

Does it have outputs for an amplifier? If not, you'll have to go aftermarket or converter.

Well enclosure in car audio typically means the box for the subs. I mean an enclosure as a generic housing for a set of speakers. I can see an enclosure being $10k, but you said a single speaker, which is hard to fathom.

A lot of people wouldn't even know what to listen for in a system. Audiophilia is an acquired disease once you start hearing good systems

I think its the other way around. Law of diminishing returns. I'd bet the difference between a $10k system and a $1k system is a lot more noticeable than the difference between a $10k system and $20k system.

You're 100% correct. The difference between a $300 and $1000 system is huge, and it definitely only gets marginally better past that when compared to the gains up to that point.

But I meant most people can't tell the difference between even low-end, entry-level stuff.

That said, I really, really want to go crazy with audio when I can afford to. It's so interesting to me. Plus my headphones have made everything else sound like garbage.

Edit: I've just realized that the only thing I would need to go active 3-way in my car is:

- A set of small subs/midbass drivers
- A distro block
- A 3-way crossover
- The time/effort to wire it all back up
- A way to mount the new subs/midbass drivers, or a place to move my current mids to (or smaller replacements for my current mids to be able to mount them somewhere else easily)

Oooooooooh boy. I really don't know if it's worth the effort though, considering anything I do from this point on is going to basically require irreversible customization to the car...
