Greatest QB season ever?

The seeds of this discussion began in the NFL thread but never really took off. What are your thoughts?

1984 Dan Marino - Has to at least be included in any discussion like this. Held the single season TD and yards records together in the same season.
1994 Steve Young - Better completion % and less INT's than Marino, but with significantly better weapons. Also posed a significant rushing threat with 7 rushing TD's.
2004 Peyton Manning - More TD's and less INT's than Marino, significantly higher passer rating than either Young or Marino.
2007 Tom Brady - More TD's, less INT's than Manning, and a better completion %.
2010 Tom Brady - Less gaudy than his '07 version, but very notable for its staggeringly low 4 INT's and .8 INT%.
2011 Aaron Rodgers - 46 TD's, 6 INT's but on less attempts than '07 Brady. Current passer rating record holder by a narrow margin over '04 Manning.
2011 Drew Brees - 46 TD's, 14 INT's. Notable for a staggering 657 pass attempts while maintaining a 71.2 completion %. Single season passing yards record with 5476 yards.

Not sure how '07 Brady isn't better than '04 Manning.

I voted for '84 Marino though.

Manning threw 1 less TD in like 7 less quarters, 80 less attempts, and had a 1500 yard rusher. The balance in that offense was incredible. 3 guys with 1000+ yards, 10+ TDs, and the rushing attack to top it off.

84 Marino
Just because of what he did with the the rules that were in place. Compared to all the others within a year or two around it, 84 Marino stands out. Its not that what these guys are doing now isnt insane, its just that what Marino did in 1984 want really touched for 10 years. And its hard to say anything from the 2000s is the "best" since there are so many QBs haveing the years they are having. Rules cater to the QB/WR

Yes they do, but think about the development of athletes over the past 30 years... The supplements they take, the ways they train, it's night and day. Defenses are a lot bigger and faster now than when Marino played.

Little known fact: there was a big re-emphasis of the "chuck rule" in 84, which greatly aided Marinos stats.

My point is, look at the top 5 QBs from 84....now look at top 5 from 2011.
1. Dan Marino MIA 5084
2. Neil Lomax STL 4614
3. Phil Simms NYG 4044
4. Dan Fouts SD 3740
5. Dave Krieg SEA 3671

1. Drew Brees NO 5476
2. Tom Brady NE 5235
3. Matthew Stafford 5038
4. Eli Manning NYG 4933
5. Aaron Rodgers GB 4643

1 Dan Marino MIA QB 48 17
2 Dave Krieg SEA QB 32 24
3 Neil Lomax STL QB 28 16
3 Joe Montana SF QB 28 10
5 Lynn Dickey GB QB 25 19

1 Drew Brees NO QB 46 14
2 Aaron Rodgers GB QB 45 6
3 Matthew Stafford DET 41 16
4 Tom Brady NE QB 39 12
5 Tony Romo DAL QB 31 10

So even though the "chuck rule" was enforced more in 84.....not all the QBs took advantage of it then.
Shows how special marinos season was compared to other QBs in 84 with the same "rules".

Sure, so thats the one constant you can take from it. Its not like we are pitting 84 Marino VS todays Ravens D. Players on O and D in 84 were in the same shape as each other....same as in 2011.

07 Brady. It's like the 04 manning season, only better. Plus they only lost 1 game.

superbowl. sure it sucked to lose the most important game, but they still did win more games than any team in the history of the league...

That would explain the increase in yards/TD's, but Marino still threw more picks than Manning or Brady. That's what puts those two ahead of Marino for me.

I think the int's are also a byproduct of the rules as well. In 84 you didnt get the pass interference calls that you do today. So the corners can hand check more and be able to pull down more int's per pass.
Not taking away from how the players are playing today with the rules in place.

Yea, I'm fully ****ing aware. Marino was one of the few QBs who could have succeeded in todays NFL. Actually, he'd probably be in the top 2 routinely every year and would be shattering records like it was no ones business. To say he was ahead of his time is an understatement. Doesnt change the fact that he benefited from a rule change just as Manning did in 04, and subsequently every QB since.
