Anyone with a torn Meniscus?

So yeah,..... This bullsh.. just happened to me. After about a month, I'm able to walk mostly normal, not have it hurt all the time. Was training for a half marathon and overdid it by running in the am, then walking miles around philly all day. I hit the gym this weekend and I'm sticking to low impact stuff, (bike). Whats the reality of still playing Tournament paintball with this. Doctor said he wants me to try and live with it for awhile before I ask for Surgery.

I have torn mine twice. The first time I opted out of surgery and two years later I tore it again and had surgery. I had the surgery back in 06 and have not had any issues since. The surgery just rounds it off and weakens it more than it already is too. So the surgery is hit and miss for most. It's not a major injury or complication.

Go visit a PT. It is really important that you strengthen the muscles around it.

I tore my lateral meniscus when I was 15. Got orthoscopy, and it healed fine.

Swimming was probably the best thing I could have done for it.

Yeah

Hey, thanks for all the help everyone. Yeah, maybe I will get some PT advice, as I would like to stay away from surgery if possible. I have heard that swimming is the best exercise there is all together, too bad I don't have a pool!

I obliterated my menicus and MCL my senior year, had surgery and it healed up great. Swimming is definitely the best exercise you can do for it. What surprised me though... the stair master. It was part of my PT regimen and it really helped strengthen the muscles.

You have to get surgery if you want it fixed. I come from a gymnastics background and every athlete with meniscus trouble gets cut and they recover in about 4 months to fully active. One of my friends nursed his all the way from 2008 doing rehab and avoiding work on it and he got it cut Feb 2012 and hes fine already.

Hey

Thanks for the help everyone. After the original post, I have been in the gym, working hard. Using the exercise bike, stretching and leg press. I played some ball Sunday for the first time. I did not take it easy, was able to hit the snake a few times and pull off a race run. The knee felt mostly great. I did have some strange moments and muscles in new places felt strange or sore. Today I can feel the meniscus bothering me a bit. I'm going to continue as I have been going, hopefully it will be all good.

I would recommend an MRI to see the full extent of the injury. I obliterated my meniscus in a skiing accident a few years back and had to get it trimmed up because the loose flap was causing a whole bunch of problems including popping and dislocating my knee cap. I was on crutches for a week, back to (most) sports in a month, and fully recovered after 2-3 months. I have no had any issues with it since.

Tore mine my sophmore year of highschool in September, was back for wrestling season running and sprinting. just give it time...try to bend when you can, hurts like hell, but if you let it sit for too long long its a lot worse.

Havent had surgery on my knee at all and have completed Insanity..Point being is that its a relatively minor thing, just need to give it time. Take care
