Here are mine...

Diablo, my male albino western diamondback rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox)

And Masumi, my female Indonesian King Cobra (Ophiophagus hannah)

Unfortunately I rehomed her with the breeder I got Diablo from. I was simply traveling too much, and gone too often, to have cobras.

I have a ball python named Monty. Hoping to build a new enclosure for him in a few months. Anybody experienced in building anything like that?

Gonna get more and more used to reptiles, and pick up a Boa of some sort or a Lizard when my ball passes on.

I have this cage for my ball python. I built a custom cage for my bearded dragon, and going this route was MUCH cheaper.

This is my ball python Angelo. He is about 1 1/2 years old now.

This is when I first brought him home. He barely fit around my hand.

And here he is a couple months ago:

And my most recent picture from about 3 weeks ago:

I got a baby albino corn that I've had for about 2 months now. I'm picking up my baby ball python on Tuesday.

Will get pictures later on.

So here's a question: How many of you feed frozen/thawed and how many feed live prey?

I ask because not many people stop to consider the difference, and just feed live prey for the thrill.

However, feeding live prey creates many dangers/issues, including the danger of transferring an intestinal parasite from the prey item to your snake, and the chance of the prey item injuring your snake.

With the parasite you have to consider this. It is alive inside the rat's stomach so, when you put the rat inside the snake, and the snake digests the rat, guess what's left?

I've seen a number of snakes with missing eyes, gouged faces, and chunks bitten out of their bodies. One even sustained a bite to the spine that left it paralyzed and it had to be euthanized...all because they owners fed live and weren't paying attention.

Regardless of what many will tell you 99% of captive snakes will eat f/t (frozen/thawed) prey. With pythons you may have to warm it under a lamp (they have heat sensing pits). For the rest you can usually just thaw to room temperature and serve. With some you may need to tease feed them or do what I call "mouse puppets" where you use long tongs and sort of run the little rodent corpse around and make it appear alive.

While the feeding part is a bit more involved, the trade off is that you don't have to make a special trip out for a feeder. You can simply keep a bunch of them in the freezer. We used to order them online and they would come direct to our house packed in dry ice.

BTW...I'm not trying to tell people how to raise their animals. The fact is many people just don't realize, and many pet shops don't know **** about reptiles...they're simply looking for a way to sell you aquariums and such.

Also, if you use heat rocks here is a simple trick to make it reptile-safe; cut the damn cord off and put it back in the tank. They have no thermostat in them and are prone to overheating. Bet to use overhead heat and a thermometer.

My ball python wont take frozen, but I do monitor him while eating. He's been eating adult mice for about 4 months now.

I have pictures on my old phone of when he was smaller. His name is Mitch, he's about two years old.

This guy is rocky, not sure how old he is exactly but I adopted him from my school.

That's my girlfriend, I'm not a girl. Just saying to avoid confusion.

For the record I was gonna make a snake club thread. Similar to the pitbull thread but I was too lazy to design a banner and to host the thread

My ball python Draco. Had him for about 5 years now. He eats twice a week and has stayed fairly small for whatever reason. Although a word on the frozen mice, some snakes just wont eat them. No matter what you do, Draco wont. Even with every method online I have read he will bite, then spit it back out.

Ball Pythons are well-known finicky eaters. I've owned a few.

And congrats on not naming it "Monty." It's kinda like naming your dog "Spot, Fido, or Rover. lol

Speaking of the heat pads. I bought one and have yet to plug it in, because I've been meaning to get a thermostat before I use it. Do you think it would be bad to use it?

Its one that you stick to the bottom of the enclosure, so their is glass then a layer of his bedding between them.. I've heard of bellyburn and I didn't wanna risk it, but I think it may make him happy.

This pic was one of the rare occasions that I even handled her, and there was a hot snake expert standing just out of view. Right after this we confirmed her sex and boxed her for transport.

I am a huge believer in protocols and safety. I had multiple hots and have never even come close to being tagged.

I will always feed mine frozen. I'm hoping my bp is a good eater, but if not I will work with him to find something he likes.
