As much as i loved the old-school EQ, are they ever going to use the graphics from shadows of luclin? No one can argue that the graphics boost was a great update.

1.) Shards of Dalaya supports all Luclin graphics and models. You can enable them in the options menu before you login.
2.) Luclin models are retarded ****ugly.

Yes, for two reasons:
1.) Everquest was a ****ing phenomenal game before Luclin was released. I like to preserve that nostalgia.
2.) I believe in function. Luclin models are a resource hog that just minimizes your ability to push butan effectively. I don't have any spell or environmental effects enabled either, because they just **** with line of sight while I'm grouping/raiding.
Either way, it doesn't matter. You can use Luclin models!

Oh, i am not even arguing that luclin was a good exp. EQ went downhill ever since that expansion, but i absolutely loved all the expansions before it. As soon as i can get my hands on EQ i am going to be playing this, but thats what the problem is, i either need to find some new copies of it (which i don't think i would be able to find very well) or ask my parents to send me the games through the mail. =/

Can't you just download a torrent like the OP said? I've been done with wow for quite some time and I do crave a good mmo occasionally I think I'm going to check this out. Never played EQ before.

I can't download torrents with my internet. Yeah, internet on military bases suck ***, but w/e. I just want to warn you that EQ is going to be ****ing horribly boring unless you have a lot of friends to play with. EQ was such a good MMO because of how much user interaction there was (and because there werent a bunch of little ****s running around). With only 600 people on at once, its going to be pretty empty, and the content is not very dazzling.

How the **** would you know?
Like I said in the op, Shards of Dalaya maintains a very social atmosphere. The developers dedicate a lot of time making it a social world. Despite your misconceptions, it's not "empty," nor does it feel "empty." The entire world was designed and balanced to force player competition and interaction. Furthermore, the content is generations beyond any MMO I've played other than the original EQ, and it's impossible to fully preserve that type of experience. Further still, Shards of Dalaya's staff is more active in the game world than any other game ever.
Maybe you should, you know, try it before letting assumptions creep into your mind.
Edit: I started playing SoD without knowing anyone at all.

Thats great that you are so happy with this game. You don't think i know what i am talking about? I played the original EQ from start to well - past the point it started to plummet, so don't let assumptions creep into your mind.
600 people is not a lot of people, defend it as much as you want, but EQ is a HUGE world, and 600 people is not a lot for that much content.

EQ =/= Shards of Dalaya. In fact, most of the Dalayan community hates when people compare Everquest Live to Shards of Dalaya. Regardless of whether or not you have played EQ, you don't know **** about SoD.

A little bit about the server: Shards of Dalaya is a very nostalgic and well made server; it's a throwback to the glory days of EQ -- before Luclin. SoD was created ~2004, and originally named Winter's Roar. After undergoing heavy maintenance and polishing, it is enjoying its most successful incarnation -- SoD 2.0.
|
Oh ok, i guess i misunderstood. How does SoD differ from EQ except for extra content? If it is not at all like the old EQ (as stated by the first post), then i would like to know what exactly is going on.

The vibe is similar, but the world is completely different. The answer is no, gameplay is not at all like old EQ days. I never stated that gameplay was anything similar to Everquest. I said, and I'll quote:

It's not my fault you're misinterpreting the context of my posts. Most of the nostalgia comes from visual aspects of the game -- models, level design, etc -- not the actual gameplay.
The first days of EQ captured something that has yet to be replicated in any game I've ever played -- a sense of adventure and peril in a virtual realm. Shards of Dalaya tries to preserve that experience, although its not as intense. That's the extent of its relation to Everquest Live.

Shards of Dalaya is easily the most sophisticated EQemu server ever created. Some of the features include:
* By far, the largest playerbase of all the EQemu servers.
* Serious hardware and bandwidth.
* Fully customized content. Forget what you think you know about the old world and experience thousands of new monsters, items and skills.
* A complete backstory.
* The storyline directly applies to the geography of the world. Zones are connected differently than in the commercial online game. Different creatures and level ranges frequently populate these zones in order to conform to the storyline.
* Trade skills.
* An abundance of unique quests for all ranges of levels and classes of characters.
* Monsters feature far greater spell casting intelligence. Seeing is believing.
* Over 100 new revamped zones, ranging from dungeons to large outdoor landscapes to extremely challenging raid areas. Zones can feature everything you'd expect from a classic live zone.
* Full guild support.
* A huge variety of bosses and raid encounters, each featuring a unique and hand-made loot table.
* Levels up to 65 currently supported.
* Fully working AA's, including new custom AA skills.
* Faster experience gain compared to the popular commercial online game. Not necessarily easier, but faster.
* New features and content are introduced regularly.
* Last but not least, it's FREE. While Shards of Dalaya is open for individual and monthly donations, it has no required monthly fee, playing it will cost you absolutely nothing.

I had to go to the site and look up features in order to finally find out what you mean my different. I hope you would take this information and put it in your OP, so that people know the difference.

Selling stuff as usual
|
The feature list is basically a bare bones description. There is a lot of new stuff in the game. I played EQ from launch for a long, long time and SoD is just.... better.
Anyways, yea I'm not playing actively but I get on now and then.
