Building a tank HELP.
I`ve been saving up to build a tank for 1 year now and I finaly have enough. Can any one give me tips on what matiral to use how to build the luancher and the engine. Im working with about 3000 dollars and I already have an engine. Also how to transport it and where to get the matirels. What would I use in the rocket and I want to have a turret on top. I`m using a a sp1 and I already built a sort of top. What would I for the armour and how many guns should I have. Where would I get the chasis and how would i build the floor. Tell me basicly all the fundimentals of building a tank.

Building a paintball tank really isn't a whole lot different from building say a large go-cart, dune buggy, off road racer, all terrain vehicle, etc.
First, contact ALL fields you might be tempted to use this thing at, and find out if they have any specific rules. For example, one local field does not allow anything built on an automobile chassis. ATV, golfcart, utility vehicle only. I think it's for insurance reasons, but their trails are also fairly narrow, so an old van with netting for windows wouldn't even fit.
Once you've done that, then we can proceed further.

Fubarius,
I suggest for more info read the many posts that are on here and other sites regarding tank building. There are numerous opinions. If you scan thru the many sites that have tank pics you may see something that will give you ideas on what your looking for. You say you have the money, an engine, sp1, and a way to transport your tank. First off, the money. $3K is a really good start because your going to have numerous expences directly and indirectly that total up quickly. Dont stop saving. As long as you run your tank the costs will continue in many respects. What kind of engine do you have? Lawnmower, car, truck, atv, etc. This would limit what you want to build. SO pick a vehicle that matches your engine. Then when you have a vehicle. Then start coming up of what design of a tank you want. Once you come up with a design will determine what materials you will need to build the structure. There are many materials you can use for your armor such as coraplast, plywood, luon, etc. For you framing a suggest use metal strips of some kind for needed strength to keep your tank together. For a launcher I suggest stay away from anything PVC and modify a launcher thats commercially made from a light metal. Many fields dont allow homemade launchers that have PVC construction. Thats all I have for now. I hope that I givien you some ideas. Good Luck!

You have a golf cart engine...so, where's the rest of the golf cart? You'd have a chassis, steering, brakes, gas tank, seats, all ready to go. Just build a shell around that.
We can't really tell you HOW to BUILD a chassis. It's one of those things where if you can't figure it out on your own, then you don't have the necessary skills, tools, or experience to do it. Heck, I personally wouldn't build one up from scratch at all if I could help it. Take something existing, and already functional, and modify it to suit the purpose.
Some existing vehicles that would make a great first tank...
Golf Carts
ATV's (a little top heavy, but they'll do the job, my tank was built on one of these)
Side by side seating ATV's (John Deer Gator, Polaris Ranger, Yamaha Rhino, etc)
6x6's and 8x8's (Argo, MAX, etc)
If you want real tracks, dig up a Cushman Trackster.

Get material, build box on ATV. Use netting for windows. Go to your local field (where you're a regular customer, you are a regular customer who supports his local field, right?), tell them what you're building. See if they'll donate some spare beat up netting for you to use for windows. My local field gave me a 6' x 12' piece for free. Offer to pay.
Here's my old ATV tank. It really was a bit too top heavy, try and make something a bit lower in profile.
The ATV based tank in this thread is very well made, better than mine...

What ever you want. Gearing it up is the easy part. Building it is HARD.
On mine, I never bothered with a Nerf launcher. There just wasn't enough other tanks at the time to justify the cost and hassle. So all it had was the swivel mounted A5 on the top with a plexi glass shield, and just a regular paintball gun (my Viking) being shot out through a slit on the bottom of the side netting.

What ever you want. Mount it, don't mount it, bolt it to the body and run a wire from the board to a switch mounted on the handlebars. Really, there's no wrong answer. And you can always change it later.

I wouldn't worry about it until you actually have it built. You have to keep your priorities straight. First, you need something that moves. Then you have to make sure it complies with the rules at the field where you plan on using it. Then you need to build it up so that you're protected. Then work on making it look good. After all of that, and not before, then worry about how to arm it and what stuff, dodads, and thingamabobs you load up with.

heres how you can chronicle the build (what i'm doing and it makes it seem less hectic) Be sure to focus on one thing at a time.
1. Design - Know what you want to do before you do it. this helps so your not wasting material time and energy. dont worry about what your shooting and where it will be placed (i.e. dont design the whole tank around the armament)
2. Build - The chasis, and wheels/tracks. if you already have a chasis this would be a good time to tweak it so it can handle the weight and strain (if its a gocart or something like that.
3. Build - The engine, drive train and safety features (like brakes and engine cut-off etc. This is when the vehicle will be able to move under its own power. make sure it works and runs, drives stops, etc before you continue. *note, where the driver is and his posistion in the vehicle is most important. cater to the driver "needs" then work around that seeing is how the driver is the most important crew member)
4. Build - Interior and turret- this is when you finnish the inside of the chasis ( tweak the inside such as air system placement, storage, and such). then you can either build a turret or perfect the vehicle (if there is no turret).
5. Armament - This is the last step. Plave your main and co-axail or what have you. and you can put on the finnishing touches of the tank.
test and have fun...
*note this is just a rough version of the steps you can take* this is also your build, you can take this as advice or do it your own way. it doesnt matter.
