How to set up your ego

So recently there have been numerous questions saying "what are the best settings for my ego" or "what settings should I use on my ego". Every gun is different and needs to be set up correctly. This thread will guide you on how to adjust your boards settings and how to tune your regulators for maximum performance and efficiency.

Keep in mind the settings I use are for an SL 74.

Timing
The timing menu provides access to parameters which control the Ego's firing cycle.

Dwell

The dwell parameter controls the amount of time that the solenoid is energized and therefore the amount of gas that is released with each shot.

Stock Ego Dwells
Ego8 Dwell - 12.5
Ego7 Dwell - 16.0
Ego6 Dwell - 10.0
Ego5 Dwell - 7.5
SL8R Dwell - 12.5
SL74 Dwell - 15.0 is stock, but Jack Wood said he drops his team guns to 12.5.
SL66 Dwell - 10.0

Setting your dwell too low can cause many problems with egos. I would recommend stock, but if you really want efficiency you can slightly lower it .5-1.

FSDO
First shot drop off is a reduction in velocity of the first paintball to be fired after the Ego has been left un-fired for more than 4 minutes. The FSDO parameter is used to define an increase in dwell time for the first shot in order to combat this problem.

I have personally never really seen any egos with a severe fsdo problem, I have seen them in my matrixes, but not my egos. I'd recommend a setting of 1.0 or 2.0 (2.0 being stock).

Filter
The filter menu provides access to parameters that are used to control the various software filters.

Debouce
This parameter is used to set the level of debounce on your Ego. IT can also be used to turn the TT filter on or off. Selecting the TT option from the available parameters turns the TT filter on, whilst selecting debounce 1-9 turns the TT filter off.

Debounce is something which definitely depends upon the marker. If your gun is bouncing, turn up the level, if it is not bouncing at the stock level, 5, i'd leave it there.

Empty
Custom and 3rd party bolts can fool the BBSS if they have slots or holes that allow the break-beam to pass through . To overcome this problem the empty parameter defines how long the break-beam has to be in-tact before the breech is considered empty.

4.0 is the stock setting for this parameter. I turned it down to 2.0 so it takes less time for the eyes to be seeing each other to confirm the breech is empty. (By turning this setting and the Ball setting down, your gun will shoot at higher ROFs).

Ball
The ball parameter defines how long a paintball has to sit in the breech before it is considered ready to fire.

This generally works the same way as the empty setting, but it times how long it takes for the eyes to detect a ball. Same%

Lowering the lpr more than one turn can increase wear and tear on the springs and/or damage them. It also decreases the consistency of the marker.

Good thread

Didn't feel like going through all that. Opto settings are personal, so as I said, refer to the manual.

I copied the same settings onto my 07 Ego. Should I adjust anything?

Dwell at 15.5 should be fine, that is super high for my SL 74 though, I dropped it down to 12.5 after speaking with jack wood and confirming the stock dwell.

Those settings should work fine.

Dan, I initially had my Dwell at 16 and my LPR in 1 turn. I then lowered it down to 15.5 and it still work awesome for consistency but now reading your above post of turning it down to 12.5, should I change my LPR setting at all?

Your LPR should be fine, I talked to jack wood and he said the stock SL74 dwell was 13, but he said you can take one brand new out of the box and put it at 12.5. Try going to 12.5 or 13 with your LPR 1 turn in and see if you have consistency still, if not, back it out .5 turn.

Those settings are right for an 07.

Your lpr could probably go a little below flush to optimize performance, read how to set up your regs right and try to get it a little lower.

I use opto, I love the feel.

I just purchased my first ego. It is an sl8r Should I have the same settings that you used on this page or should I adjust my settings differently? I don't really know what everything else means besides what you've explained in this thread. If you could help me out it would be sweet and much appreciated
