Hydro dip it at home

Too bad the patterns are mostly variations on redneck.

I checked out the site and while they only list camo patterns I found this site.
http://www.mydipkit.com/

They have other patterns like carbon fiber or diamond plate

I think it would be an easy way to add a carbon fiber look to a gun or parts.

I don't think it's a thick coat since the ink is liquefied on top of the water. This is the same technique used by Dye to produce their graphic coated guns, or at least something similar.

Please be careful with these kits, I can assure you that the process is a lot more involved than they let on. Also as for the thickness of the "film" it is a non issue it is the thickness of the clear coat that will get you.

I think this is pretty cool. Id love to do this to my pump. Will it only bond to metal or will it grab plastic? Also, how durable is the finish with the clearcoat?

Im going to take a shot in the dark and say that with the clearcoat, its just as durable as spraypaint with clear coats

I dont have any experience with paints or clearcoat. Im just wondering if it would hold up reasonably well to paintball.

They use an automotive base with a hardener and the clear coat has it too, the real tree karnis and some other guns are done with hydro dipping.

do they just plug the gun body cavities before they do the dip? seems like that would be the kind of stuff that would change the inner tolerances

Yeah they plug holes, I know Oregon hydro masks off threads too, I forget the total thickness the process adds but it's not much. I bought a DIY kit and plan on dipping a bunch of stuff next week while I'm on break, I'm planning on testing tolerances too.

It will stick to any clean surface that you can dip. Skin included .

Yes it will hold up just fine if applied properly. The durability really depends on the base coat and the clear coat that are used.

Yes the body should be plugged for the whole process.

The total thickness all depends on the base and clear coat used. The ink from the film is not really a factor. Our base and clear puts us at .5 - 1.25 mils on average. However automotive paints and powder coat can be in the 1.5 - 5mil range.

Yes, we use Cerakote for most applications. We also use a powder base and clear on occasion.
