Anyone switched from a Dm12 to Clone GT? Or shot them side-by-side?

Fixed: Read First Reply

I sold my dm12 last week, and picked up a used GT off nation. Every video I watched online and from the posts I was reading, I expected my Clone to shoot like it was only puffing a little ball of air. But compared to my dm12...it kicks more than an ego. It has a ton of kick for a spool. Obviously I think there might be something wrong but I dont have a pressure tester (at the moment) to check the pressure, and the previous owner had the dwell set to 15. So i reset everything to factory (dwell dropped to 12) lubed the drivetrain and the reg with the included Militia Lube, and eyeballed my velocity next to my teammates dm12. It had zero effect. I kept switching back from the dm12 to the Clone and was amazed how subtle the dm12's shot was when comparing them. I know the fitted o-rings make a difference, but my o-rings are broken in and I think something might up. I'm using a Ninja reg with all the shims removed (450psi). Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Wow. Easy fix guys. After reading the manual straight through again...i happened to notice there wasn't a spring pictured in the drivetrain. Mine had a spring. I have no idea if its Pooty's spring mod, but I took it out...and it made a ton of difference

the Clone should at the least shoot as nice as the dm.. I would get a pressure tool and check with that.

What does the spring look like? Have a picture? And where was it? Pooty can confirm if it is his spring or not. With the pooty mod, you should be running the dwell lower than 12. 10ms seems to be where everyone ends up.

It looks exactly like the one in the pic on Pooty Paintball. I'm just a little confused why it kicked so much more. I did try lowering the dwell all the way down into the 8-9 range, and shot it at 10 but it didnt seem to change.

After removing the spring I would say it shoots very very similar to my dm12. Im definitely happy. Now when I get my pressure tester in I can fine tune it a little, and I might just replace all the orings to be safe

It should run at 100psi.. The spring should not have an effect on smoothness. Kind of strange. Im curious if it was installed correctly.

I've had the potty spring on all three of my GTs And that's never happened. Wonder what the issue was. I'd be curious to see some pictures of the DT and the spring.

Ask any of the GT Militia guys, I love the potty spring mod. The moment I saw it at cup I ordered it from Chris. Had no issues l, so I would love to know the cause

Glad you are enjoying it! Treat her well and she will do the same to you!

Feel the same way, after shooting a Dm12 and a pooty Luxe for the last year the clone definitely had noticeably more kick. Mine is brand new, so I will give it some break in time before I pass judgement. My DM12 when tuned was the smoothest thing I have ever felt... However I loved the fact that I could drop 7-8 pods without having to worry about air.

Just to confirm it was only the spring, not the whole bolt upgrade. It looks like the 8$ spring on the website, but I can't confirm that it is. Ill upload pics to the thread tonight. It was just slid over the powertube. I also noticed two clear o-rings, one on the bolt keg inner, and the bolt switch o-ring. With the clear color I'm guessing they might be poly orings from the hand fitted kit

I have a DM9 and that is well worn in like a old pair of leather dress shoes. DM's are some FINE SMOOTH QUIET shooting markers, that are known for the Matrix Chuff.

But you have to consider, that the Matrix has a LOT MORE and HEAVIER moving mass in a bolt, surrounded by allot more metal in the body of the marker.

The Clone GT is on par with LUXE, the bolt system is very robust, and very efficient for a spool valve. The marker doesn't have allot of BODY to it as compared to a matrix. The spring speeds up the bolt, and may contribute a little to perceived kick, but make sure you break in the GT. Give the Orings a good ride, and they will bed in and it should smooth out even more. My GT is very quiet and nice! The only thing I can think of for the sound being poppy, is tight fitting orings.

Give her a good chance before you judge her!

After taking the spring out, I am already attached! It shoots great. Definitely more of what I expected. I'll be practicing with it this Thursday

Glad I read everything before I replied to this thread, I'll die before anyone gets away with saying a DM shoots better than a GT

Glad you figured it out man, the GT is an amazingly made marker with performance to more than compensate for the price point. Love mine and can't imagine shooting anything else (that's currently out anyways )

the spring should not add more kick. pop the spring back in for ****s and giggles and drop the dwell to around 6-8ms. then tune the hpr to the proper fps. you should see it be really smooth and have no kick. i personally havent done a pooty mod because well, my gun doesnt need it. its stupid smooth and quiet and doesnt kick from the factory so.... yea... lol

The spring allows you to lower the dwell and have no fsdo. I can't feel a difference is shooting recoil wise. All I know with a spring in the gun I'm running a dwell of 7 when there was snow and ice on the ground with no fsdo.

Threw the spring back in, dropped the dwell to 7, and shot some reballs through it. I was amazed. It didnt even move when I pulled the trigger. I guess having the dwell so high with the spring in may have been causing the kick. The only problem is with the dwell at 7, the velocity was obviously too low, and when I tried to increase the hpr the gun started to leak around the frame/solenoid. Turning the hpr back in stopped the leak, but the velocity was too low. Everytime I tried to get it to 280, it leaked, and the further I backed it out, the faster the leak. My pressure tester should be here next week though, so I'll be messing with it then. That should help me reset everything, and go from there. If all else fails I'll just take the spring out, set my dwell to 12, and just play like it comes from the factory

Here is what I did to get mine to shoot where I wanted it. First installed the spring then Lowered dwell till I got inconsistent then uped it till it stabilized and stayed there. I left the hpr where the gun was set. Look up pooty paintball macdev gt spring mod. Some people can run a 6 some a lil higher mine to be consistent is 7

Yep, definitely watched that video. Thanks for the info

I'm gonna do exactly what you said, probably drop the dwell back down to 7 to keep it safe and adjust the velocity. I'm just waiting for my pressure tester and o-ring kit so I know I have everything adjusted right, and I'm going to replace all the o-rings. Hopefully they will be at my house early next week, and I can update this thread when I get it in

More dwell should not add to kick. Its not pushing the ball faster/harder and the bolt is moving the same speed.

perhaps when you eye balled the ball speed compared to the dm, you thought you had not reached 285 and kept adding pressure? I have heard from ALOT of people that they dont believe they are shooting 285 because its so soft.
