98 Custom Pump

Before we start flaming or anything, I have searched, checked the stickies, and googled.

I am planning on turning my 98 custom into a pump over break, and I had a question arise. My 98 custom has a cyclone feed installed on it. Would that need to be removed in order to convert it to a pump?

Yes. It is powered by the blowback air and if there is no blowback, there will be no Cyclone.
Hope that helped.

If you milled your rear hammer down so when it tries to blowback instead just vents then you would have to recock it. then you make it like an automag pump kit, where you push the rod and bolt back into place but then just retract the rod, leaving the bolt in place.

Now, what would interesting to do is to link your Cyclone into your pump stroke...that would be really cool to do. You'd just have to tie in the pre-load rod into your pump stroke. All is not lost!

Another question. What is the best way, in your opinion, of preventing the blowback air from blowing the sled bac

How about instead of diverting it you block the blowback gas. That will make the marker much more efficient.
I think the cyclone feed taps into the air flow inside the flow path to fire the ball rather than taking from the blowback air anyway. It should work with every shot whether the gun is semi or pump.

I actually found the cocking plate on ASP's website. http://www.airsoldier.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=AOS&Category_C ode=AIRSMITHING
I'm sure the other parts could be scrounged around.
As far as the Cyclone. That might have to be dumped or modified.

I feel like a pump 98 would feel too awkward when you are holding it.

the most efficient way to make a 98c pump is to lathe down the valve pin and seal off the blowback at the valve it is advisable to take off the hammer and bolt orings this way as well
after that if you want a closed bolt pump slot the hammer and mill a slot in the body to attach the pump arm to the bolt

modified valve pin on the left stock on the right

modified valve body note the epoxy in the valve pin passage (please ignore the filled in holes on the sides, this was my test valve)

slotted hammer (not necessary if you want an open bolt)

pic of my valve assembly

Interesting. Thanks for the insight. This project is on hold though until I'm done with classes this semester.
