Would be nice to know what Frank has to say in regards to this.

Could be because of the way both of yours are tuned. You'd have to use his spring in your gun and compare your efficiency with the spring to your efficiency without the spring to get an accurate result.

the spring is to help with first shot drop off. efficiency is spools is usually attributed to how fast the valve (bolt) opens and closes. i know the lurker eigenbolt for the shocker is engineered to open and close VERY fast (via spring, qev holes etc)

Whoever answers this better have shot it with the spring and without the spring in their own gun. Not yours vs your buddy's gun. For fair results the test should be with the same gun...

Spring very likely has no bearing on efficiency. The spring is not the mechanism driving the bolt forward in a shot. It's only there to counteract inertia. It may have some bearing on shot smoothness only in the manner that it gives some resistance on the return stroke as opposed to simply allowing the bolt to actually bump directly into the bumper o-ring.

The first 6000 shots from my 2013 were without the spring. I've since added it and found no difference with or without....
....efficiency no, sound signature no, smoothness slightly but barely worth mentioning.....
