Paintball SC (Columbia)
Hey guys, So I am a US Soldier that unfortunately got DA selected to be a recruiter in Orangeburg, SC. As I am sure you are all well aware, I like to play paintball. I have been playing competitively now for about 7 years here in Germany in the highest league that Germany offers. I have yet to compete in a PSP event, but I am certainly looking forward to it!
I am posting this thread to find out what the best field for me to go to would be? Despite the fact that I will be working in Orangeburg, I will be living in Columbia. I know that is a whole lot of driving, but I don't want to live in a "craphole" from what I hear. I would also like to know of any teams that compete and where they play. I am trying to continue to play this sport, and I hope I can find a new paintball home in SC.
Thank you in advance for the help... I look forward to reading your replies.
Chris

Yes, O-burg is something of a craphole. The only speedball field within an hour drive of columbia is Ballbusters. Although they cater moreso to recballers, there are a few tourney players that frequent the field. The highest concentration of tourney players in the state are in the upstate (rock hill, greenville, spartanburg) and down by da beach (charleston, summerville). With that being said, me and the team I play on and anyone else who is interested will be practicing at Ballbusters on September the 15th starting at 10AM until the field opens to the public. Come practice if you want and welcome to Columbia.

Thanks for the reply! I will not arrive in SC until the 22nd of Oct. I will then have to wait until my household goods gets off the boat from Germany being that all of my paintball gear will be in there. Do you guys play often? Any older guys play? I will be 29 in Nov. but don't let that fool you, I can ball with the best of them.
On a side note... Can you tell me what sides of town I want to live on? I want to live closer to Orangeburg, so the south side... But if there are no nice neighborhoods there, then I'm open to ideas. I'm looking to spend about 1k on rent.. Maybe more... Who knows. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

We just started playing together as a team but we play as often as finances allow (generally twice a month) . Our ages range from 19 to 29 and our skill level is just as varied. But we all love the game and are trying to get better. There are some highly skilled ballers from other teams that come out and play too, but I don't want to speak for them. As for my team, we are trying to establish a regular practice schedule that can help attract local tourney players and reestablish Ballbusters as the place to go for Midlands ballers.
The cost of living in SC is pretty low so 1K a month will open up a lot of doors when looking for a house or apartment. Personally, I think anything on the west side of the river is better than Columbia. Cayce, Springdale, West Columbia, Pine Ridge, etc. are not bad, but as far as "nice" neighborhoods Lexington probably has the nicest outside of Columbia. Again, this is just my opinion, but maybe it will help.

PGP, I looked at the cities that you posted, and Pine Ridge is a perfect location, only 40min to Orangeburg. I will have to start looking in that location. Plus that Ballbusters place in only 5 minutes away. I think I will have to give that place a shot, but Rock Hill looks a whole lot nicer... I just don’t know if that hour+ drive will be worth it, if good paintball in my backyard!
Well, I feel a little better about moving now... I just hope I am able to find a nice place that fits my budget. Please keep the recommendations coming! I need all the help I can get.

paintball charleston holds speedball days. there is a facebook group saying what the next up coming day will be and who will be attending. this guys play d5-d3 i believe. but most of them travel to tourneys in rockhill.
I am apart of the clemson University club team it is in the upstate aswell. we travel to greenville to practice.
but from what i hear your best bet is rockhill or charleston. i do know that some psp teams go to rockhill and play. shoot me a pm if you have any more questions or want any contact info.

If you're still looking for a place to play, Augusta Paintball in Augusta, GA, will be opening soon. It is in Georgia, but Augusta is a straight shot down 20 from Columbia. Solid D3+ talent.

Hey guys! Thanks for the replies. I look forward to see balling in your region but for right now I am still in transit from Germany to South Carolina. I have a 8 week school at FT. Benning before I show u around 14 December. I will post up when I get all of my stuff in and ready to ball.
Some more housing area help would also be great!

some gfoa, some milp, some cfoa, some psp. Gfoa isn't exactly what i'd consider how I came up though. I live in low-country SC and practically on the Georgia border.

Probably too late, but Id suggest living in Cayce which is directly west of Columbia. It has easy access to the interstate and when I lived there I was working in Orangeburg too and it was about a 35-40 min drive. Unfortunately I-26 between Columbia and Orangeburg is starting construction for expansion so you get that to look forward to. Orangeburg is a dump and has extreme poverty. Id highly suggest carrying something like mace or a taser to defend yourself.

What's the best field around the Greenville, SC area? I just moved here in late May and have been looking for a solid field with a high concentration of tournament players. I used to play D2 PSP a couple years back and would love for a highly competitive field. Also looking for a really fun recball field that has great courses I can take a big group of friends out to occasionally. Going up to Planet tomorrow with some first timer friends I got invited with just to mess around.

^^^ Paintball Central is not too bad^^^ …you can get the WCK & never have field or air fees, join a team & get team price on paint.
Carolina Riot is the Scenario team & we are always welcoming guys to run with us at games. We play at some great fields all over the southeast and do not pressure players to join us as some teams do.
For speedball in our area it is Paintball Central for sure…check out my Black & Blue Friday game…come join us for some relaxed friendly play.
