it all comes down to protection vs looks.
would you rather be safe or look like everyone else?

I don't wear one because they don't fit me well, restricts the breathing and is uncomfortable. A neck shot can however take you out of a game, or out for the day, week. I got shot last game of the day, from a good distance, just after jumping over the snake, well I ended up coughing up flem and having difficulty breathing for a good hour afterwards. We put some ice on it to help a little with the swelling.

I see alot of people wearing them, byt they really arent much protection, just a few mm's of neoprene. I never wear them and get hit in the neck all the time, it's really not as bad as some people seem to think it s.

I agree, they are annoying. But they ease the pain. And that pain that goes away after three minutes? It took 24 hours for the pain to go away last time I was shot in the neck.

One really can't judge all neck shots the same way though. Every scenario is different. Even a millimeter difference on hits can totally change the pain levels. Dramatically. I play a lot and get head and neck shots the most when I get out. I have taken a shot to an area that felt minor. Then a week later I took a shot to almost same place opposite side and almost couldn't walk off the field it was so bad.

Overall I recommend the PE overload neck protector, why take the chance? For me it is worth the look to have the safety.

I've been hit in the neck before, I'm thinking about a neckguard as well.

Anyone that says they haven't thought about a neck guard after they've been shot in the neck is a outright liar. I went through a stretch where all I did was get shot in the neck, I wore some safety thing we had out here at work. Now that I'm back into paintball, we dont have them anymore, I'm ordering the PE one. For now bandana will do.

I, along with most of the guys I play with have one. I don't use it all the time but I always have it with me. If I get shot anywhere near the neck that day it goes on.
P.S. The PE is great.

I've wondered allot about this. I hardly ever see anyone wearing one, but man does it suck if you get clipped in the front of the neck. I try not to leave allot of space between my jersey and mask and I'm usually alright. It didn't hurt that bad in the side of my neck.

I'm kind of considering the switch, now, though, allot of insight here.

I got shot in the side of the neck once. It didn't hurt all too bad. They look like a pain and I would rather just deal with the pain. If you would want to wear one though I wouldn't blame you for doing so.

I watched a guy take one in the Adams Apple. He was a tournament player that was playing rec ball with his team. Rushed in to bunker a player behind a log who was smart enough to roll 6 feet to the side and wait for the Rush. When he came over the top, he had his head UP and looking in the wrong place. Pop, Pop. Right in the adams apple. He went DOWN and couldn't breathe. 911 call and his lips and nail beds were turning from grey to blue. Not a good sign..... EMS got there, got some O2 on him, hauled him off and wound up being released from the ER. No long term issues.

I went out and bought neck guards for myself and both of my boys. They were itchy and scratchy and the boys would forget them or loose them. Whatever! I got tired of buying them. They WERE uncomfortable to wear.

I installed neck protection ON the bottom of the facemask. Down to the chest, ear to ear. Kind of Predator looking. They couldn't play if they 'lost' their facemask. Kids thought it was cool. The kids at the field thought it was cool. I thought Daddy was REAL Cool! And it WAS literally cool to wear. You didn't know it was there during play.

15 years later my mask finnally died. and my Christmas present replacement mask was NOT quite what I specified. It had the Soft Rubber lower section. Before was all hard plastic.

Which by the way took a Nerf Bazooka round about 5 feet from the muzzle at 250 fps right over my mouth. Scared everybody and expecially me. Shot by the field owner. LOL! GLAD I had that neck protection. It could have been a couple inches lower....

Anyway, Went and played with it before I put the new neck protection on it. Would up one concrete brick wall thickness from another player and we both new it. Up we go, Bang. Both hit. His shot was point blank - inches. It hit the soft rubber, broke, and went right into my face and neck. Split my lip, mouthfull of gooh, bleeding on my neck. Not a happy guy. I REALLY< REALLY wished I had my old hard mask back WITH the neck protections. I am not exaggerating with I say I have picked over a 1000 ball shells out of that neck protection over the last 25 years or so.

Neck protection IS a good idea. It is a shame, the commercially availabale items are so hot and itchy. Worth the time and $5 to do your own.

Full FACE hard masks are a good idea. A chin strap that is buckled is a good idea for your own safety and well being. Stuff happens out there. If you play scenario, you need to be aware of things flying around like Nerf Rockets and hand grenades. You play long enough, you will find out what I mean.

I have a pic somewhere. Will try to post it here.
