University of Iowa paintball

I am a freshman at the university of iowa and I have been looking seriously into starting a team here since the old one was dissolved. Any current students that are interested, hit me up and lets see if we can get something started. So many other schools have teams, so we should too

good news to anyone who cares, we have officially submitted the request for a club as well as our club constitution to the SORC and are awaiting approval. I will most likely be presenting to them after spring break and then hopefully I will be able to hold the first club meeting!

I would think that you could get something started, With as many students that are there and it would give us another thing to go compete with Iowa State!

If you get a club and are interested in getting advice and practicing against one of the best Pro Teams in the world, let me know.

I can also be an advocate in helping you get a club when needed.

We can use all the support we can get and I would love to have the opportunity to train with a pro team and to learn from the best. We are starting at the bottom and will have a long way to go, but we want to work hard and be successful. Blake7214 is one of the guys starting this with me so we would love to get in touch with you and work something out. We arent technically formed yet, since we are awaiting approval from the school. we are hoping to get our own field and if so, our potential is endless.

This is huge! Hopefully you guys get approved and are able to take advantage of this. I know several other teams in Iowa would love to have this opportunity.

Hey so I will be returning to Iowa next Spring or the following year. I saw this video and thought that if you could get the board to watch this it would have a huge impact on their thoughts about the NCPA. However it is pretty long. Goodluck getting the club started and maybe we will be in touch sometime in the future.

UPDATE: The student org board should be meeting today and deciding whether or not to approve the club! In addition, we officially have a UI Staff club advisor to act as a liaison between the club and the university. Things are going smoothly, and we will see what the next few weeks bring.

Hey, I see that your trying to start a team and I am totally interusted. Im a freshmen here at Iowa and I have been thinking about starting up a club myself, but it looks like you beat me too it. I played speedball pretty much all through highschool except my senior year, so im a little rusty now, but i would love to play for Iowa... feel free to text me at 630-988-1477 so I can get some more information!!

Well, finally hit the first potential road block. I talked to a senior student org board member today about this club. I was informed that I will have to give a presentation to the board within the next few weeks before they will decide whether or not to approve the club (which I expected). I was told, however, that getting our own field (at least to begin with) is pretty much out of the question and their main concern is safety and liability. While I am somewhat prepared for this, any help I can get from the wonderful community on pbnation would be greatly appreciated. the most important thing I can use is statistics pertaining to paintball popularity and safety. If anyone knows of anything, please post the statistic and the source.... thanks guys!

Although nice, a field isn't make or break for you. Just get an established club. You have some places to play at in the area, and you just have to make the most out of them. Getting an established number of people that show up regularly to meetings is where it starts.

Also, try getting in touch with the guys at ISU. They already have a field on campus and a pretty well established club. Maybe find out how they run things. It might be useful info at least in the future. That might appeal to your board since it's a sort of rival school.

I just had dinner with my friend quinn, that went to iowa 03-07 and he was part of a group trying to get a paintball club put togehter. he said they tryed everything and the school never even gave them a chance. he did say they were able to put togehter a student run organiztion that run 35+ people deep, they were able to use the IOWA name and trademarks but received no money,

I am very aware that we may get no money, at least to start. Luckily, so is every guy that is doing this with me and we are all aware of the cost and time commitment. I will do whatever it takes to get the school's favor and as long as we keep pushing, we will succeed. As Winston Churchill once said:

"Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm."

I love the sport and want to see it grow, and the support of the paintball community is wonderful. A school board is nothing but an obstacle, and I wont stop pushing until they either support us or I graduate.

I promise to keep you all updated on the status of this club and please keep posting. I love to see different perspectives and ideas!
