Ghostballing

I was wondering what most peoples feelings on ghostballing is. I was playing Sunday and took at least two people out while I was playing at home on the xball course. Just so I can explain it (in case someone doesn't know what it is, or I'm referring to it as a different name) ghostballing is when you curve the paintballs to make them hit a player ducked behind a bunker, without actually seeing them. I noticed a few people who seemed a little aggravated after I took them out and didn't know if ghostballing is an acceptable practice or if it is pretty much frowned upon.

Correct me if Im wrong here but doesn't that involve the use of an Apex? Last I checked using an Apex tip is the only way to get that extreme a curve on a ball to get it to wrap around a bunker.

The only time I ever manage to shoot around a bunker is when im playing dorito and I drop one in on somebody in snake.

A hit is a hit, and usually speaking, a shot that breaks around cover to hit someone you can't see is considered epic.

I've never used that name for it, but I think it's just fine if you can manage it. It's part of the game.

Not every shot like that is done by an Apex (or other curve inducing system).

I've done plenty of cross field shots that arced over a center bunker that was blocking the direct line of sight.

If I received a shot like this I would just consider the guy lucky as **** and move on. Never heard of it being something frowned upon.

Nah I'm still using an ion. One of my friends has an apex and was showing me how they work. Hopefully I'm not just getting extremely lucky with every shot that I got like that.

I've done it...typically it happens with exceptionally crappy paint. I was shooting at a friend one time from behind a tree. The ball curved left, straightened out, flew straight for about fifty feet, then suddenly curved around my friend's cover, hitting him in chest. I was never able to replicate that shot. Ever! You don't really need the Apex to do it, if you're shooting far enough away you can shoot over the top of cover and hit them in the head. I've done that a good many times...like in this video:

Right at the beginning, I call out "I got one, I got Kayla." (My girlfriend's sister) that was a ghostball. It came up over the top of her spool and hit her in the hip. I didn't get Madison out that way, but...

Im accustomed to shooting quality paint. I have never had a crazy curveball flyer wrap around a bunker although I have dropped paint in on people. I guess if your lucky enough to have physics and luck on your side with low grade paint then hey good for you an elimination is an elimination.

I had this happen to me a few times. Once, I was playing snake, dropped up to fire, then dropped back down. Someone over in the very far side dorito (I was in the middle of the field) shoots one ball. It curves, dropped over the bunker I was lying down behind, and dropped straight down on the top of my head.

I called him a lucky SoB and went to the dead zone. I wouldn't frown on it, in fact I would encourage it.

you broke gravity!

isnt Ghosting when you are in a bunker, and cant see the other guy, because of another bunker, so you shoot over it to where you assume the other player is?

I do this all the time. I love getting players out that way.

It's not really frowned on. You should always be aware of your entire surroundings and how you're using your bunker. Don't put yourself in a position where someone can longball or drop shot you.

This is the new word thread.

I can only ghostball crappy paint as well. It's not something I try to shoot someone that I can't see, unless I'm just laying cover fire.

Ghostballing is in many cases a necessary shooting skill to have under your belt. Consequently, I have no issues with it since it is an integral part of the paintball game.

Not that my 98 hit the speedball fields often, but I try to take advantage of the curve given by the flatline when I can.

I use a apex all the time when playing speedball to get the curve it forces the other team to stay tucked tight into their bunker

Personally it happens every once and awhile but for someone to get mad over it is odd... although I do see why they would be... It happened more when I used to play airsoft....

Probably should've got back to the thread earlier but i didn't think i was gonna get many replies.
But yeah if it's a good skill to have I'll keep trying to use it as a back up when someone drops down.

By the way is the apex the only other way to duplicate this, or is there another way?

If you put a shot within an inch of a bunker's side you can watch it curve towards the bunker. This is helpful for shooting over the top of the X from back center to eliminate the other back center. No shooting over the top of a race, but a full blown X.

That being said, I will actively try it when someone is in a can, pin, or a race and I often either get them out or scare them with bounces by getting my ball within an inch of the bunker so it wraps around a little bit.

During a game this guy with an apex swore by this kind of method. He liked to sit really far back and "snipe" players with the curve. I honesty don't know if he got anyone out but if it's works I would go for it.
