it all varies due to what gen you want and what you have to spend. Some scopes are great, but thats just the thing theyre scopes. So you may not be able to see stuff depending on range. Monoculars have advantages and disadvantages as binocular styles both have pros and cons. Monoculars generally need a Mich or PSAGT style helmet and mounts which can cost some bucks, but you have the advantage of having one eye as natural so you can see what your doing up close. most binocular style come with headgear and are larger/heavier then monoculars. Biggest downfall with these is depth perception and not having a neutral eye, unless of course the system is a PVS style that has a hop up on it so you can flip the system up away from your head. I have nice gen 2's for sale if you wanna know anything specific about them lmk

I rather not put my Gen3 $$$ out there to be hit by a paintball going 280fps

Id go with a monocular because they are about half the price of binoculars. But the ones that are actually good will ussually cost above $300. and if your rich u can buy the $3000 military issued ones lol.

Unless you're willing to spend the money to do it right, you'll be disappointed. Start studying proper night observation techniques.

Just properly acclimating your eyes to the dark and utilizing off center viewing will do wonders in the dark.

I had gen 1 and it really wasnt worth having. They do work but when you run against guys running 3rd gen, 1st gen makes you a target. They can see you but you cant see them.

but anyway, for what its worth, a mounted monocular would be my suggestion if your going 1st or 2nd gen.

I wouldn't even bother mounting it either, maybe having the mount ready to go if you get in close to your opponents, but just walking around hte woods i would use it to scan and rely on other senses.

I am in the military and have used both pvs-7's and pvs-14's. Of those two I prefer the 14's because they are not as bad with depth perception, mostly because they only cover one eye. You dont necesarily have to have a helmet to mount them either. They do sell muonts that you wear on your head without a helmet, granted they are not verry comfortable it still can be done. Let me know if you have anymore questions..

Old thread reply, but thought I would say a few words about nightvision scopes in paintball.
1. Since you have to keep a mask on, keep in mind the scope has a green glow to it. Which, since the scope isn't ON your face, will cause your masked facial area to, therefore, glow green, while all else is dark.

2. Also, I found that the IR immitter on my gen2 scope has a red glow to it. Again in pitch darkness, you can see the green face glow as well as a nice red glow from the scope.

3. Atleast at Wayne Dollack games in Ocala, the guys with 3million candle power hand helds, seemed to nullify most of the reason to have a night vision set up.

4. Both issues 1 and 2 can be overcome, partial sheild over face and use a better hand held flashlight with no red glow immitter, however, #3 is a bit more difficult to manage.

Just thought I'd add my 2c.

Funny you brough this thread back up as I got a new set of NVG yesterday. I did like the one poster and got a set of the Eyeclops from Toys R Us. Bought them out of curiosity mostly as they were like $30. And I have to say, they range absolutly sucks, but the Night Vision is better then my $100 camping set of Gen 1's. I got the monocular "Scope" version. Its digital so the picture is actually clear unlike the tube NVG's. The black and white I was able to see fairly well with out the IR, inside of course. I was very surprised.

My Coleman camping units I had more range but the picture was crappy. but you could still see at least a good 20 to 25 yards. These have crisp picture with crappy range. It says 50 feet, and I could make out my truck at that distance... If they added a zoom lense these would be sweet.

Has anyone messed with the other Eyeclops sets???
