If you're using an SLP reg, do you need an LP poppet?

With low input pressure from an SLP reg, will use of a stock poppet hurt the gun's consistency (with regard to velocity)?

It's 2 completely different things. You don't need either, but you can use both. (: It's all a matter of preferences.

Don't think so, the LP poppet allows for a softer shot.

You'll do awesome with stock poppet, and slp reg

The SLP regulator is on the tank and controls the input pressure into the marker. This pressure, be it 275 from a SLP, 450 from a LP or 850 from a HP tank (or anywhere in between) is promptly knocked down by your HP regulator on the marker. HP Tanks at 850psi, incidentally, will blow the seals on BL markers with internally plumbed air passageways.

Once it gets to your HPR it's regulated and knocked down into the 150-210 range...and then sent in two directions. The first place is to the LPR which promptly knocks the pressure down further usually to the 65-80psi range. The LPR's air goes to cycle the ram (and the bolt since it's attached). The ram hits the poppet and opens the valve to release the HPR to help propel the ball. The LP poppet comes into play as the last step of this. If you want to lower your LPR pressure, a longer LP poppet means that it's going to protrude further into the sleeve, be struck by the ram sooner, open the valve for longer and propel more HP air. The kick you feel is the cycling of the ram and lowering the LPR pressure slightly can reduce that to a point. You may have to use a little more HP air at higher pressures to propel the ball since the bolt isn't going to have as much force moving forward (among other things). You lose efficiency because you use more air.

So, as you can see, two different things. The SLP allows you to get more shots at a consistent velocity (usually down to about the 275psi mark) before you start to see drop off.

Isn't the lp poppet for lowering the hp pressure, at least on the g6r. It is longer to open for a longer time using more air at a lower pressure.

The real answer to this is that you want both anyway so your G6R pwns as much as possible.

This is the correct answer regarding the LP poppet.

The LP poppet is not ment to lower your LPR pressure, but your HP pressure.

I'm a G6R noob, but been teching guns for a long time. My question is more for clarification than anything else.

Lets say I have a tank that puts out 450psi. Essentially anything below 450psi is lost since the tank reg wont go lower. Since the G6R can deal with input pressures down in the 270's, I'm effectively losing 180psi of usable air and that is where the efficiency improvement comes into play. Ignoring blown seals, an 800psi tank reg makes the problem even worse by losing the last 530psi?

Yup, wasted air is wasted.

But be careful using anything over 400/450 psi

Thanks for the response! I wouldn't seriously use 800psi in this gun. I have a Ninja Pro and a guerrilla air LP kit.
