Discussion thread for The War Z. The War Z is a open-world zombie survival game that takes place 5 years after the outbreak. The current world is based on Colorado style terrain and cities, thus the map is called "Colorado". Developers have also said that many more maps are in the works.

I was going to make a thread about it. If people think it looks bad, they're stupid as **** rofl.

same looks like it will be fun...also reading on their site says you will be able to buy things from a in game store or something with gold i guess you can find in game if you dont feel like going to find stuff. sounds interesting

I think it looks like it has amazing potential. I mean, DayZ is cool and all, it just has alot of quirks still.
I think it will be cool to have something similar that is an actual game rather than a mod.
I'm also really glad they are taking the more realistic route, much like DayZ.
I would be interested in seeing this game have quests as well. Originally it was going to be a completely quest driven game but they changed that as Dead Island came out and noticed every other zombie game was driven by quests or tasks. I like the way they are going, but I would like the quests to still be there as well.
I also hope that more buildings are accessible than in DayZ. Also would like there to be a way of punishing people for PvP kills, and being able to determine if a person is killing to kill (thus resulting in a strike towards becoming a bandit) or if a person is killing because they were attacked by a few people.
From everything I've read about it, it just seems like a casual game looking to cash in on the success of Day Z.
Time will tell, I suppose. I eagerly await some gameplay footage.

When exactly did rocket "think of" DayZ? Do you think it is just a coincidence that some nobody game devs start hyping their game when a popular free mod somewhat similar to the game they're making has nearly 1 million unique players?
I mean, who knows, maybe the game will come out, it will actually be awesome and I'll look like a jackass. We will see when the beta comes out I guess.

No, it's been in the making for over a year. That's pretty known, and in just about all of the interviews.

I think it will be a pretty cool game. I'm sure there will be things that a lot of people dislike, but thats the same with any game.
DayZ also has alot of potential, I just get tired of playing an alpha level game. Bugs and other quirks in the alpha phase piss me off.
The thing is that Day Z isnt a game. Its a MOD for Arma 2. The War Z is a full fledged stand alone game, and it will be amazing if its anything like we think it will be.
Also, the term Z-Day came from Max Brooks who authored The Zombie Survival guide. Max Brooks also authored a book called World War Z.
The "Z" term is very common throughout the Zombie survivalist community and it isnt a stretch for 2 zombie games to share that "Z" term. Especially if both games are trying to hit the hardcore zombie survival market.

It may have been in the making for quite a while, but it's just suddenly coming into the spotlight following the viral success of Day Z. Will it be good, I sure hope so, are they copying Day Z, maybe some successful parts. Are they using the Day Z interest to promote their game, definitely.

Oh yea I agree with that. But they aren't trying to "cash in" on the success of Day Z. To do that they would have had to start making this game after Day Z was released.
They've also said that they have implemented things that people said they liked about Day Z on the forums.
Because the zombie apocalypse theme isnt extremely popular or anything.
A really good zombie apocalypse game is like everyones dream game. I honestly think its pure coincidence that these 2 games are named similarly and have a similar theme and play style.
I'm with denton. Everything inside me screams that the game is gonna be bad. Not saying I'm right but I just can't see it any other way until I see more from it.
