SD is tits. I'd love to live there. the north is less crowded and I maintain out of state registration on both my vehicles. cheaper to live up north too if you stay out of the bigger cities.

So I know asking for legal advice on the internet is kinda dumb, but I think this might be a no-brainer or someone has some background knowledge on the topic.

Went for the NYE last night and parked in a 2 hour parking lot (with a **** ton of other people) and there was no attendant and the exit gate was wide open, whereas usually there is an attendant who you will pay for the time you park there. Other than the 2 hour parking sign, there was no other notification that they were planning on charging us for parking there for the evening.

Fast forward to the end of the night, we get in the car and start driving home. About a mile down the road my buddy sees a yellow envelope under my wiper so we pull over to get it. Not a ticket, but a receipt from the parking company who owns the lot for $18, a full day rate. Now I am content with paying that money because I guess we did stay beyond the 2 hours and they had no way of knowing if we were there for 2 hours or 24...

Until I saw that they recorded our license incorrectly. They typed a "C" instead of a "G" The make and model was correct, but technically they don't know our actual plate number.

Sooooo. How easy would that be to blow off seeing as it wasn't a cop or parking cop who wrote it? Or should I just cut my losses and pay the $18?

TL;DR: Got a receipt for parking longer than 2 hours, they wrote down the wrong plate number.. do I have to pay still?

sounds more like moral advice than legal advice... legally you don't have any repercussions for not paying but morally is another matter.

Agreed. However, morally, the parking company wasn't very forthcoming with the parking rates. I feel like they kind of took advantage of the situation.

I will likely end up paying it because it would be traced to my parents since I am using their car while I am staying with them. Also, I am afraid of the man.
