Playing D3 and D4 in a single event?

I briefly asked Larry about this at DSO and he said I couldn’t do it. He looked busy so I didn’t want to strike up a conversation about it.

But just curious, how come APPA/PSP/CFOA doesn’t allow that? I mean, it’s two totally separate divisions, so it’s not like I’d be playing “against” the other team I am rostered with.

Because I mean, I am going to the River Jam event, and if they run all the games on one field, it would be a lot of fun to play two divisions and get more play time in, seeing as how I’d be driving all the way up there to do.

For one, I would guess that they can't guarantee that there wouldn't be any scheduling conflicts between to two teams that you're playing with - but seeing as this past weekend they only used one field, I don't see that being a problem there.

Two, you would get teams complaining to Larry that they saw this guy playing for a D3 team earlier and now he's playing for a D4 team. They may not know the situation and I would assume that would get pretty tiring to Larry having to keep up with those people playing two divisions and having to explain to other people the situation.

They used to let people play in separate divisions when the tournaments were 2 days, but only if the 2 divisions played on different days.

Yeah that's what he told me, now that I remember. He said on the two day tournaments, it's not really a problem.

As far as people complaining, if I am qualified to play either division, what's the big deal? I can understand if I were D1, playing D3. I dunno, would just be fun to cram a lot of paintball into one trip.

No, no you're right. What I was trying to get at was the people that don't know the situation - as in not knowing you're fully qualified to play both divisions - might complain. And you know how paintball is, people will complain about anything. And it may just be too much of a hassle for Larry to have to explain the situation to those people over and over.

I see.

If you look at the PLUS side though, maybe if that were allowed, there would be more teams signing up for multiple divisions.

For instance, say I had a D4 team, and we drove 8 hours to come play 5 man. We all know that sometimes 5 man can be long and boring...(waiting for games, etc) But if we had the option of playing two divisions, (D4, and D3) and we had teh money to do so, we would definitely do it.

Gives us two opportunities to possibly win, we play more paintball, and more money is changing hands.

I completely agree. I wouldn't mind playing two divisions if I were able/allowed to.

But think of it this way - what if some of your games are scheduled DIRECTLY after your other games. You have to run off the field, get ready again, and be back on the field within a minute - otherwise the field gets behind schedule. There's really no way that they can guarantee that these situations won't happen.

True, but even this past weekend, there was maybe a good minute to 3 minutes max between games. So getting ready between games would really be no different than Xball. Piece of cake

EDIT: on second thought, what you said is a VERY good reason. If one guy can handle it, that's one thing. But if a TEAM is in two divisions and the schedule gets back to back, that's a different story...they may hold up the tournament and make stuff get behind schedule.

I wouldn't see one guy here or there being a problem, but a TEAM, yeah.

So on top of running all divisions in one day.. they're also mashing the schedules for divisions together?

That's how it worked last weekend, and it ran smoothly.

No complaints here... just curious how it was gonna get done.
We are thinking D3.. wanted to watch games first but I guess we'll just work with what we're handed.
