It was bound to happen sometime, to have two national leagues is not something that you see often and for good reason.
On the bright side of things, now sponsors will only have to focus on one league which means more money towards that league, which can be used to have even larger prizes and events. Pushing paintball closer to being something that one day hopefully you can actually make a real living off playing. But that's just the way I look at it.

Best comment so far.
But seriously... I was really looking forward to see the 'Canes get a chance to win the series next year. I was also looking forward to seeing how things work out in the Pro league with three franchises having two teams each. Would've been very interesting.
Chris' argument about it being very difficult / impossible for anyone to pick up the NPPL name and get something started for next year seems likely to me. I'm sure that someone will either take the XPSL name and run with it or setup a competitor, though.
I wonder what will happen to 7man in the long run. If the NPPL remains dissolved next year and it doesn't appear that a competitive national 7man league will emerge from the ashes, then what will happen to local 7man leagues? Does 7man die if the NPPL dies?

The general consensus is that leagues need to have regional divisions. Take the CXBL/AXBL for example, best run series I have ever played in, and im sure they are making profits well above expectations.
Regional divisions would not only promote local teams to play , thus more participation, but the opportunity for national events as stated.
Professional Paintball Circuit (Amalgamation Of Psp/Nppl?)
I did this in about 2 minutes.
But this IS what we need.

I completely understand what you're saying, and it makes little sense.
Your analogy to the NBA does NOT work, because there is not another competing, professional basketball league.
It's called competition. They aren't failing due to a dwindling market in paintball. They are failing because of VERY poor business decisions, a dying format, and general competition from professional league #2.

LiM-O,
Again - you need to step back and look at the big picture. You're not the only one (or only state) affected by this. As an example, paintball is important to me - in fact, it's my livelihood - I'm a field owner.
You will still have all the local fields to play at. You'll still have all the local events to play in. And I'm confident that if the demand is there someone will carry-on/recreate the regional events too (XPSL). As for National events - if you want to, you can fly out the NJ and play a GPL, fly to the Carolinas and play in a CFOA, etc.. There are still many options out that will allow you to enjoy this great sport.

Dont know if someone else had this idea but,
NPPL= 18000 sq ft. of playing area
PSP= 18750 sq ft. of playing area
So why couldn't you run a 7 seven man game on a PSP sized field if there is more field being played on?

As bad as this is, PSP is where the money is, it is where all the trade shows are held, and they are just much more competitive style of play overall.
Better the NPPL goes out then PSP, but it is still bad news none the less.

true this. now there will be one league/format and it will help paintball in the mainstream.

thus the PSP will realize that they can possibly generate more revenue by having possibly 2 west coast events, instead of 3 in the East...
either way, its not unreasonable to ask for any events on the west coast cause you and i, and everybody else knows that there is a demand for tournament paintball in CA - its just that according to a lot of people, CA is a really expensive state to be running events at.
|
Like I said, until the numbers are there, the PSP has no reason to gamble their potential profits by hosting a PSP event in a 7-man state and making the entire league waste more money on plane tickets.

What he is saying is that he cant afford to be flying across the country to play, so he cant play national events for a while now.

Anyone who says that it is bad you don't really understand paintball, where it's been and where it's going.
For there two be 1 league it legitimizes the sport. How many national Pro Basketball leagues are there besides the NBA?
Does anyone remember prior to 2003? Probably not cause you probably didn't play back then nor did you know what tournament paintball was. The sport evolved from out of the woods, out of hyper and into airball all within one league. The game got faster as one league and the competition got better as one league.
It makes it easier on teams that played both leagues. You concentrate on one format and that's it.
The 7man NPPL did not turn a profit in all of its years in operation. They thought they could just be the cooler league with the glitz and glamor and hopefully people would be attracted to that. In the end hosting tournaments at national stadiums did nothing but dig the hole deeper.
Face it the better league has survived. If it didn't then why is one bankrupt.
The other leagues aren't really important. What ever happened to just local tournaments?
THAT BEING SAID PSP BRING BACK 10man

affordability has always been an issue with National events - it's one of the main reasons you see teams come and go. You don't always see the same teams event after event. I'd love to play every event out there, but you have to pick and choose based on what you can afford.
