S7 format???
I read it somewhere either on the website or on the facebook page. What is this S7 format exactly? A different field layout? A new ramping mode?

It's actually pretty cool... We got a sneak peek of it today at the all star game. It's basically a 7-man race to 3 with no coaching. All of the penalties are the same as regular 7-man and there is no gun ramping.
I'm pretty excited to see that Chuck and Frank are trying new stuff to make the games exciting for the ayers and fans!!!

Finally!
I hate ramping guns.
Semi auto requires you to use finger control!!!
I like the new format as well.

Holy ****! Does this mean that ramping may finally be coming to an end in the tournament scene?
Probably not but a boy can dream, cant he?

I would love to see that format take effect asap. I'm sure it would pump new blood into the league.

My entirely uneducated opinion is: let RaceTo be RaceTo and 7man be 7man. I like them both for different reasons and don't think we need a bunch of leagues running the same format. (I know finals have always been best of 3, btw).
Adopting S7 across the board could possibly just lead to the NPPL making itself irrelevant.
One man's opinion.

or i could hate him because it is stupid
REasons - huge rosters
- some teams would merge to make up roster space and that would cut down teams
- it would become so expensive that most teams couldent afford
- its 7-man not race
- and some teams would just not be able to maintan a team of 14 or so people
idk it just doesn't make sense to me. Its not enough like x ball for them to play and its no longer 7-man

The rosters and teams wouldnt need to change at all. Instead of playing a single game in prelims it would be more like the finals for games - and just sped up to 3 mins between games instead of however long it takes now (depends on scheduling). Still 7 man, still semi auto, still the same ol NPPL scoring ...

-Most people carry 8-9 on a roster, so it would stay the same
-It doesnt cost any more
-It is still 7man, same field depth, no coaching, paint consumption is the same

It is nothing like Xball, even though the scoring has some similarities.

I would prefer to have a 10-11 roster for tourneys, you would still only need seven at practice.
its basically seven man but it also forces teams to make bigger moves and be more creative, you cant run the same game plan 5 times in a row.
I liked it... except for the fact that west stomped east all three points..
hey could someone from nppl confirm if its like a win/loss format with a point per match or still the same format with scoring up to 100 points?

You realize that you don't need 14 players? You can play this format with 7 still right? It's less expensive than Xball, but it still retains the part that will translate to explaining the sport to people who don't understand paintball. Keeps the parts of 7 man that 7 man people like, no coaching, can still play on uncapped semi.

It's scoring is like more like Xball, bodies don't matter except to absorb penalties, 1 flag hang= 1 point.

This is what we did for the S7 All Star Game… (It was a test run and some things might be changed! But it was very cool to mix the best of some formats and get S7)
S7 Man – to 3:
Teams play on a 7Man layout with 7 Players on the field. A max of 9 players may be on the game roster. The flag will be at the CENTER of the field.
All other regular 7Man rules remain unchanged.
Time / Scoring
Match time is 15min. 3 min between each point
First team to score 3 points wins. Or team with the lead after 15min match time. If the match ends in a tie, it remains a tie game.
Switch ends after every 2nd score (2-0, 1-1, 2-2)
WINS / LOSES / TIES
Teams will receive 3 points for a MAX win (3 Game Points scored)
Teams will receive 2 points for a time limit win (held the lead when time expired)
Teams will receive 1 point for a tie. (No overtime)
Penalties
1for1 – apply the penalty the same as 7Man
2for1 – apply the penalty the same as 7Man, plus play the next point down 1 player.
3for1 – Point is conceded by offending team, plus the play the next 2 points down 1 player.
If the last player on the field commits a foul, or is pulled due to a foul, then the opposing team will be awarded a point. If any player hangs a flag, and is found to be eliminated (dirty hang) the hang will not count, and that players team must start the next point down 1 player.
Coaching
No coaching permitted. Each team may have a “Coach” in the coaching box. This person will be permitted to call Time Outs (to extend the 3min break period, one per team per match) he may also concede points to save game time.
Like I said this was a test run and we have more things we want to test so it should be a fun off season for 7 man paintball.

We played a test run up in Canada at one of Mike Carey's events back in June, he's even tweaked it a bit since then. We only had a 2 minute turn around, and there was no playing the next point down on 2 for 1's. Look for even more changes the next time they use this format, which may be soon.
