hey i want to polish my all american front tip on my barrel and it is annoed black? i guess....how do i get it that polished look?

could i put like a mothers mag polish on the outside of my gun to shine it, but its blue so will it work and not jack up the paint ?

And yes, within a brand of barrel (not stock barrels or 32* cheap stuff) the tolerances are indeed 1/1000 of an inch. It really isnt that hard when you have the proper tooling to make it.

QFT, u dont know how many times ive got asked to do a job milling something and i get the specs they want, mind you these are normally rough sketches scanned and sent via PM, and i see like .00150 and they tell me that its 150 thou, or i see .1 as 1 thou a lot.

Don't forget that in machinists terms a tenth is .0001. .1 is a "hundred thousandths". Its weird like that.

.1501 would be "One hundred fifty thousandths and 1 tenth".

not to bash on you or anything, but generally a thermite reaction requires something extremely hot, such as a magnesium flare to set the reaction off.. I could be wrong, but I highly doubt that sanding aluminum could produce THAT much heat.. especially considering that most people would probably notice an uncomfortable amount of heat produced long before that..

that's not to say that if the piece was in a vice grip and the person was using a drill on the highest setting AND not using any kind of coolant or something like that, that it COULDN'T happen.. it just doesn't seem terribly likely to happen to most people ballsy enough to try this.. notwithstanding morons, of course.

Thermite is Iron Oxide and powdered Aluminium it is normally ignited with a starter charge of powdered magnesium and zerconium This starter combination burns at over 1900 degrees which is needed to set off the main charge.
#1 thermite is a precise mix of these 2 ingredients not Rust and aluminium grindings.
#2 the "mesh" (partical size) is critical to ignition
#3 If by chance you have #1 and #2 just right while wire wheeling aluminium Aluminium melts at 1220 degrees F ....Thermite needs 1900 ++ to ignite.... you figure it out!!

someone asked about sand blasting so i just wanted to clear that up

STAY AWAY FROM IT lol

when u sand blast it leaves sand in the metal so u wont be able to paint it the anno will **** up ( but it does look kool for a while )
