Let me show you my PECS...Panel Eye Cover System

No notching of the tray
Maintains the integrity of the marker
Can be annodized, painted, cut or have graphics applied
Can be used on older or newer Excals and the Vikings
Can be used as a customizable cover with eyes or not
"Clamps" to the body of the marker - no external screws

Sorry to have to direct you to another site, got the dreaded red x in the box.

You can find pics and a PDF file explaining the product here...

http://darkviking.com/modules.php?na...iewtopic&t=144

Please read the PDF - a lot of your questions will be answered there or print it out for a closer study. I'll try and feild the questions in this first post, so you don't have to hunt through the thread to find answers.

Weight - ?
Weight is comparable to 2- 9 volt batteries - or .26 lbs - or 4.16 ounces

Added dimension to the width - ?
It adds about 1/8" to each side and 1/4" overall - it's basically taking the outside surface of JMJ cover and extending the surface the entire length of the marker.

Are the electronics sealed from the elements -?
There's a lip on top of the panels to deter entry from the top and the notches in the bottom of the panels can only be entered directly from the bottom. Entry into the notches is further detered if you wrap the panels in a decal material or by sealing the unused notches with a bit of tape. But most of the ingress of the elements will be repelled by the foam padding - see exploded view in PDF.

Material - ?
1/16" bent aluminum sheet metal.

All this for eye covers - ?
Everyone is looking for their own "special" marker and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The PECS allow you to paint(get your favorite color in a Krylon can- paint!), airbrush, etch, annodize etc.. But the real potential is in the application of decal material that comes as ScotchCal from places like Fast Signs or the creation of images from the computer applied to bumper sticker material. Cool fades, splashes, splatters, team logos, or graphics can be created for $5 - $10 instead of the annodizing for $100- $200+. Granted, it may not be a permanent option, but you can change the look of your marker from year to year, tourney to tourney or owner to owner. You also don't need to be concerned about voiding your warranty - it's external you can go to the vendor of your choice. Be creative - I'm supplying a canvas here, go beyond your preconceptions.

Def interesting...will a gun shot leak paint into tray and maybe screw up the board or noid? How well does it seal from light rain/snow?

im sorry but whats the point of this???

it basically looks like you designed a huge eye cover that covers the whole gun. is there another function to it? because if it was meant to replace the regular eye covers(assuming you thought they were ugly), they ended up uglier than regular eye covers IMO. it also makes the gun wider by probably a half an inch when you take both sides into account. aso, you said it keeps the integrity of the gun. how so? it looks nothing like the normal side of a non milled viking. my friend just saw it and said "what the hell is that? its ugly whatever it is." he couldnt even tell it was a viking.

i mean im not quick to flame on anything before i know exactly how it works or what it does, so ill give you a chance to explain it better. but i really am just looking at it from a first impression and a logical point of view. hope you understand. please explain a little more of what it does, how it works, where it clamps onto, etc. thanks. - Tony

All that for eyes and the ability to make yours unique and then if you screw up I guess you can chuck them cause you didn't do anything to the actual gun body

nice.

If you can get one to be close to my excaliburs blue you have a customer here. I really only looked at the pictures to see what it was but what is it made out of? This really determins my interest because I dont want to take on another pound to haul around.

Edit

Ok I have read the PDF. Seems kinda complicated with some of the tray modifications. Is it something that you can do for a customer?

To be to the point, this isnt a good idea, at all. More width, heavier, IMO Uglier - What if its milled? Oh NO no more milling.

froth that is unless you dont have milling. i think its a very imaginative solution. And the width isnt really a huge problem seeing as how my Halo is way wider than my gun and I hardly take any gun hits anyway.

yeah...while you get some good props for inventing it and all it just isnt practical whatsoever. I'm not even sure if AKA would Warranty guns with it installed, but that isnt for me to say. The Current Eyecovers are very nice, strong and appealing - not to mention add less than an ounce of weight to the marker.

since the only ones that can't use eyes right now, are very nicely milled, i doubt anyone in that situation will be interested in it. nah, i think its just going to be people looking to do odd things with their guns. its not something that will ever make anyone rich.

If I spent the scratch for a feather and covered it up with a billboard I would wonder why I ever bought a feather in the first place.

Cool that you are thinking of another way to solve the problem
becuse i think it will not appeal to the other 99% of viking users.

I doubt it will fit well on the old feathers because so much was taken off of the body and the pecs sit flush against a stock vik...

JPK -

Yes this would work with the Feather's, but as GTRsi mentioned - why would you want to cover up that fine milling? That doesn't mean you couldn't modify the PECS to fit the application.

GTRsi -

I see this appealing to 99% of the Viking users. You are going to need eye covers if you want to run the full potential of your marker. For a little additional cost, the application eliminates the need to notch your tray, provides a cost effective way to customize/colorize your marker, provides a clean, smooth surface, void of screws and easy removal of the covers by loosening the trigger frame screws instead of the small hex screws.

Look at it as a cell phone cover - internals are the same, but external shell can be customized. Or like a NASCAR body - functional stuff underneath and paint, graphics, stickers on the body shell - same body shells, different schemes.

With a name like GTRsi - I assume you are into cars and you would appreciate the opportunity to customize your marker.

The current eye covers just cover you eyes.

reaper- but when you change the outside of a cell phone or race car, its still shaped the same and its actually replacing the old body, its not ADDING another thing on top of it that looks nothing like the body to protect it. i honestly see less than .5% of vikings owners wanting this.
