They're located in front of the feedneck, on the side. Right behind where the barrel goes in (the breech).

They help keep paintballs in place, like a firing chamber. This way they don't roll out through the front of the barrel.

detents are actually there to keep more than one ball from entering the breach at a time...they just happen to keep them from rolling out the barrel too.

they are usually little rubber nubs or a ball/plunger on a spring.

And on closed bolt markers, they just prevent double feeds, not roll outs.

yup. and by "closed bolt" he guns that have the bolt in the forward position before firing. autocockers mostly. a lot people get that mixed up with enclosed bolt guns like shockers, dm's, mini's, etc. just fyi.

im not sure about the mini but if it used the little rubber nubs or "finger" types you might want to pick up a couple spares. those kind are easier on paint but tend to wear faster. they are cheap and its good to have spares around. its not something youll really need to worry about though, maybe like once a year or something.

Mini's use a ball and plunger type as far as I know.

You shouldn't ever have to replace a detent on a mini. If it starts to double fed or balls start rolling out the barrel then you'll know that will be the time to replace it.

Most blowbacks use the same style of detent, that is a small rubber flap in the breach held in place either by a cover (Piranhas, Spyders, Viewloaders) or by the actual body of the marker (Tippmanns). I have no experience whatsoever with electro-pneumatics, only with blowbacks and Cockers. Cockers use a spring-loaded ball to prevent a double-feed, which happens anyways if you 'short stroke' the 3-way. Detents are usually found just forward of the breech, and serve the purpose of preventing a doublefeed and keeping the paintball from rolling down the barrel.
