Well, read the first few words of my post. I wasn't sure what their real intentions were, but my interpretation was that they are trying to stimulate the lower-income families in America since the rebate applies to mostly lower-class families.

The American people should enjoy the cash while they can. Once the elections are over, the politicians will be falling all over themselves to raise taxes and take back their little "gift".
That's the way things work in Washington. What you earn is theirs and what they give you, they can take away.

You're correct and that's what took the bill so long to be passed, even though it did pass through the legislature fairly quickly.
The debate was over who would receive the benefit, Bush and Co wanted it to go to a upper middle class and above. The Dems wanted it for the lower income brackets, including myself!.

Depends how your parents file I think, if you make more than $3,000, technically you should get $300, but because your parents probably label you as a dependent, I don't know if you will.
You should get some rebate come around April anyway, at least I always did.
I don't know much about tax law though, so don't take my word for it.

If anybody thought this stimulus package is about something other than buying votes for politicians, then you were mistaken. Now they are trying to give a handout to Social Security recipients.
WASHINGTON - Retirees living off Social Security are frustrated that they won't get tax rebate checks through a bipartisan economic stimulus package before the House. Senate Democrats Friday began efforts to include them.

Yay! Old people vote, so we've got to send them some cash too!

Both parties want a stimulus package, they just disagree about who to give it to.

Bill new who to give it to. The best stimulus package ever passed was the one Bill gave Monica in the White House.

He's right about the war damaging the economy though, because not only has it widened the deficit, it has also put a war premium on oil.

That's true, they both want it. It's also true that they both see it as a way to buy votes. Furthermore, the evidence is pretty clear that you get more economic activity from cuts to the higher marginal rates than you do from cuts to the lower brackets.
