Distance issues with my mini

Okay, so I have been out of paintball for a while. My last gun was an auto cocker. Electric guns weren't a thought.

So I got the chance to play this past weekend. My nephew let me try his mini before I bought one. The gun is the most recent model out and has a freak barrel.

The gun shot great and was very accurate. The only think was I always seemed to be at a disadvantage in distance. In several fire fights I couldn't hit the bunker they were in and they were easily hitting my bunker.

I was told over and over again that was common with the mini. I also tried an axe and it wasn't much better.

The only thing I could think is that they were turning up there gun (fps).

Any thoughts? Does the mini need upgrades to shoot far?

Thanks
Chris

FPS is FPS. If all the guns are chronoed the same, they'll all shoot just as far as the other.

Hes saying a paintball shot at 300fps out of any paintball gun will go as far as any other paintball gun. But paint quality has a large affect on flight, where you shooting the same paint?

Last thing to consider, how consistent is the marker? Its hard to judge or aim a marker if each ball to ball has a decent gap, it may chrono close enough one balling it over a chrono but when shooting alot in a game down field the spread mutliplys

It can be stated that guns do have a different "shot" to them, some have a flat shot and others have a bit more of an arc. At least thats how I have always felt.

No, he is just being a douche.

You are probably lacking consistency in your fps,you can check over a chrono.

If you just bought it, once it breaks in it will become more consistent.

Please point out where in my statement I was being a douche?

My statement was true. Two guns chronoing at the same speed will shoot the same distance. Either his consistency is off, or the other guys are shooting hot.

The only other variable is they were using apex barrels, douche

Thanks for the replys. The gun has maybe 6-7 cases through it. When I chrono'd it it was all over the place. 280 for the first 3 balls, the went up near 300 for a ball or two then down a little below 280. 280 being our field reg.

We all shot the same paint. It was on the cheaper side but not necessarily junk. Didn't break in the gun at all.

I borrowed the gun because I was looking to get one. I liked everything about it except for the distance issue. I was told by the guys at the field that's an issue with the mini. That's why I posted on here. I understand the whole fps.

Thanks
Chris

Add a drop or two of paintball only oil to the asa, cycle the gun.

Put a fresh battery in it, name brand not rayovac or other crap brand.

Also, try bore matching the paint, to big of a bore will throw your consistency right out the window. You said you were using a Freak, try a .682 insert to see if that will tighten up your consistency.

BTW trolls, Snakesniper is right, 280 fps in two different guns should shoot the same distance. The only way it would shoot further is with a flatline or an apex (as previously stated)

Lube the poppet o-ring as well, most velocity issues have to do with the poppet.

HE IS RIGHT IF HE HAS A BETTER FIT PAINT TO BARREL BORE, THE PAINT WILL FLY FURTHER. TO BIG OF BORE AND THE AIR ESCAPES ON THE SIDES OF THE PAINT. SO IT IS BETTER TO FIT IT TO PAINT.

Like others have said, unless you have a barrel that creates backspin, then two identical paintballs shot at the same velocity should travel the same distance regardless of the marker. Equal momentum, equal drag, equal gravity. It's physics 101 material.

There are other variables that affect the flight of the ball, but not enough to cause a noticeable difference in distance. People who believe some markers shoot "flatter" than others are probably imagining things.

If your marker is lacking consistency, then some paintballs may travel shorter or further than others, but again this is caused by a change in velocity.

Maybe he was shooting into a light wind. Two weeks ago I had a hard time pushing past the 50 from the back and the guys on the other side were over shooting us on the break... Damn Wind
