Barn,
I imagine you're speaking not just for yourself, so I thought it best to address this here.
The layout decision was based on what benefitted the most teams. It would be an unfair advantage for teams to bring in their experience on the PSP TX layout against teams that do not play PSP. Most of the teams that expressed interest do not play PSP, much less will travel to Phoenix. We also had the potential to draw in as many as two to four or more college teams. So we went with the NCPA Nationals layout.
Having the Phoenix layout up was based on the reasonable expectation that the event would use a brand new layout. Then teams like yours and mine could get an advanced look. More importantly, it would be the first weekend of it opening, so even non-PSP teams would have equal experience on the layout. It is even against my team's interest to not use the Phx layout, but especially a 150' layout, because we hoped we could get valuable drill time in this weekend after setup Saturday and after the tournament.
I tried to bring about a layout based on local and popular demand. Initially, I was sacrificing interested teams (Ga State x2, UA x2, AU, GaTech, Ole Miss) by stating I would use the Phx layout if released. Now, especially if the college teams do not show, I may have jeopardized both. I hope not, but the event would still be on equal ground for all teams.
You're my boy too. I hope you don't make other plans, but if you do, I'll understand. I understood when I made the decision that some may wish to rehash the TX/PHX layout. I hoped in the long-run that the most teams would find the tournament more enjoyable on a different layout with the potential of more teams attending.
If you guys still decide to come, my sincerest thanks.
Mike
