Underboring
Apparently under boring is the new over boring? Throughout my pb career, I've been shooting everything out of a 693 2piece cp, I've always dealt with roll outs, just assumed that came with shooting a sniper (lol). I was always under the impression that underboring is hard on paint, and believed if by chance you did match your paint size, you do the blow test.
Do you experience breaking paint more often when you under bore? Are your groupings tighter when you under bore compare to over boring? Give me your opinions, and I'm sorry if its already been debated to death.

I always use a tight fit. Not extreme underboring. If the paint is .681 or .680 I'll use a .679 but I never cram it through. To much and it could cause breaks or the balls to warp.

Can't remember if it was cockerpunk or punkwerks or something like that... but they did test showing that you could underbore by .005+ without much fear of causing excessive barrel breaks.
Underboring by one or two thousands will help your efficiency and consistancy. These two factors will help the shooter be more accurate.

Statistics is just glorified lying
The fact of the matter is, its going to depend mostly on your paint. i like to keep it to the point where it takes a light blow to get it out the barrel, nothing strenuous. If you underbore on to brittle of paint, even by .001 or more likely .002, you will most likely break it. if its 10 degrees out and your paint is brittle because of cold, underboring will probably break it. The conditions and paint your using tend to play a HUGE role in what size barrel to use. To keep it safe, i try to stick with right around the size of the paint. +/- .001-.002 depending on what sizers i have available.
Also remember if your starting early in the morining when its really cool, and the temp is going to fluxuate a good bit throughout the day, or even +- 20 degrees, the paint size will change ever so slightly. so underboring .005 in the AM will be like underboring .007 in the afternoon heat. that gets alot of people (including myself) in trouble.

Generally if I can easily blow it through a freak insert I'll use the next size down. If I can't blow the ball through the insert by mouth its too tight.
I use inserts mainly to stop roll outs.
Sometimes you get paint that is so brittle it breaks in the barrel regardless of your insert.

What sizes are common? I have a full freak kit but I've never used it, and the barrel back doesn't fit on my gun. I saw some threads about a CP petition, doing a 1 piece 679 or something? I just bought a 685, and have a 689, 693. How often are you guys in the low 68's and high 67's? Dang, 679, isn't that reball sizing?

I was shooting Ultra Evil 2 weeks ago using a Lapco .676 sizer and still got an occasional roll out.

I normally use a .684 on most Valken around here I used a .682 Saturday. I had some Valken Infinity that was rolling out of a .679 insert.
Its really going to depend n your local paint.
Get what ever barrel you like to use freak bored by SSC and use the kit.

What on earth!? I think you might be on to something, last week I played with Ultra Evil and it seemed way smaller than it used to. 676!? Might as well go 50 cal at this point.

For freaks I have .670, .675, .680 and a .684 which I have never used...
Played most of the season using the .675 shooting Valken Redemption and Graffiti.
In my earlier post I was not trying to say that underboring by .005 was ideal. just that it can be done. But the type of paint you use will effect this a lot as was stated. Brittle paint will break, but it may not be from the underbore as much as the actuall blast of air hitting it sometimes. Or combination of the two?
I will usually size by the blow test until I cant blow it out of my inserts.

I use a .679 almost exclusively and once in a blue moon find paint that won't roll through a .682. All larger sizes have sat gathering dust in my gearbag for the last 8 years or more.
I typically get ZERO barrel breaks when I play. Maybe 4 barrel breaks in a WHOLE YEAR of playing. (i.e. -- underboring does not cause barrel breaks.) Typically though, I'm using the smallest bore I have and it is barely small enough to do the job; I'm not underboring by a lot. I do believe extreme underboring would yield poor results.
As for consistency, I've never been able to approach the same consistency when I've tried overboring on my open-bolt guns. Though some people think that overboring is what you want -- my experience tells me it is the last thing I want to do. However, I'm glad some of my opponents do it.

Paint at my field is pretty small. I've used a .679 on my T2 and all electro's I've bought. I rarely get a barrel break. I haven't used anything over a .679 in probably 2 years. If it works why change it right?
I also find that my guns are quieter when I use a small bore barrel. Especially on my Shocker or Pm7.
IMO underboring is the way to go. Especially with pumps. I hate getting rollouts. Haven't had a rollout sinced I started using my .679.

I agree with Loneassassin...I use a .679 Lurker all the time. I have shot paint that I literaly had to shove into the barrel with the pump stroke and it shot out, a little slow, but without breaking.
I have a Freak with both SS and Alum inserts and it doesn't like underboring, especially that much. What I feel is the Lurker has much smoother entry into the barrel, the Freak when you look down the barrel has a slight step and the insert and barrel are not concentric.

I'm a returning player as well, and the general concensus is that the paint is smaller than it used to be.
I use a .684 on my cocker to prevent rollouts, and I will be getting the next two sizes down.

I'd honestly get a .678 Lurker Eigenbarrel for $30. Best underboring barrel on the market IMO.

As of late, I've had the same experience as loneassassin. I'm using my .679 Freak insert because some were still rolling outta the .682 insert. When I go to a different place or shoot different paint, I resize... but haven't yet had to go above the .682 insert. Definitely make sure you don't get roll outs... it's so much better when that doesn't happen. On the same note, I like to use an electronic hopper too... hate it when I go to make a critical shot and there's no ball in the breech!! Good luck and shoot 'em dead. -Justin

I'm taking a look now and it doesn't seem like they have 16" barrels. It is unfortunate otherwise I'd be all over it.

Nope underboring doesnt break any more paint in moderate climates and with most paints. If it's really cold out you may want to be conservative on the underbore or even overbore. Same if you have a particularly finnicky paint.
But for the most part, you simply cannot break more paint by underboring. I have crammed paint so huge into my barrels that they actually would not shoot out of the gun, and they still didn't break. A sphere is extremely strong if squeezed equally around its circumference.
What you gain from underboring is velocity consistency, which allows you to chrono closer to the field limit, and efficiency, which allows you to use a smaller tank. Oh and you eliminate rollouts, as you know, which is huge in pump.
I just use a .681 for everything unless I notice any weirdness, which is almost never.

Yeah I'm sure... it's just a mental thing for me. I'm very particular about my gear and superstitious to boot. All my set ups were very similar. I absolutely need a 16 inch barrel and a full 68, along with some heft to the gun(I only use my outkast body). The frame I use is a trilogy 1.5 hinge frame and I need yellow amber lenses to play well. Lol I didn't wash my clothes or gear before events because I didn't want to rub the luck off.... yeah I have issues apparantly haha.
