Whats the oldest DM model I should consider?

Hi

Im new to BP and looking to get my 1st but decent marker. From the research I have done seems that Dye DM are top of the line, however, I was wondering if the OLD models are any good for the price. For example DM5 for $100? or should I go with newer model of lower end marker like PMR or similar?

Is there the oldest cut off model of DM I should consider, like no older than DM7 or 8 due to major changes that would be a must have?

Thanks

I'd get a DM6 for $200 and call it a day, easy to operate and no marketing fuzz found in later models.

The DM7 does nothing that the DM6 can't do just as well, except adding an eyepipe that'll need replacing ever so often.

DM6. My favorite DM (or any marker really) ever made.

If you can find a DM4 or DM5 with a UL frame they are nice too, but not really cheaper than a 6 and much bigger/heavier.

Also worth looking into Proto, if you can get a PM7 with UL frame or a PM8 they are great deals as well.

Depending on your budget, dm9 is one of the better values while still being essentially the same as the 2012 model size and shot wise. Dm8 was the first to go without eye covers, which is the biggest thing for me over the 6 or 7. So I would say 9, 8, then 6 as for what you should look for, if the first is too expensive move on to the next in line. Dm7 is great, but the eye pipe isn't as needed when you still have eye covers, so you would probably do better to save the difference.

One stupid thing that bugs me about the DM up to the DM8, and the PM's up to the PM7 is that they all have a paint magnet in the front. Everything has something in the front of the marker that, practically, screams "paint get in me, and penetrate so deep into my crevices that even a q-tip can't get it out!"

This has, really no bearing on performance or anything like that, I'm just picky about my markers... and the less that I have to take apart to get all the paint out, the happier I am. So, if you are like me, and completely anal about getting paint on the inside of your marker, a PM8 or a DM9+ is a good way to go.

Is dm6 better marker than Dm7 or 8? Or just better value for the price? Is 275 good price for dm8?

oh, you have no idea...

I can't be the ONLY person who chooses a marker based on how easy it is to clean up... right?... Anyone?!?!.... *crickets*

i don't know enough about pricing to say whats a good deal, but the dm6 is not better per se, its actually the same as far as how it shoots when compared to the 7 and 8. all three are similar in terms of size as well. the only reason i would suggest 8+ over the 6 is so that you don't have to worry about eye covers getting stripped (big nightmare on the older DMs). Ultimately I would say go for the most recent matrix your budget will allow, but they all are going to perform similarly. Consider size and features though (eye pipe, lack of eye covers, more adjustable trigger in the dm9 and up, removal of the under-barrel on/off, ect)

When people say the DM9 is the best DM so far its only because it fixed everyones gripes about the earlier ones (eye screws, under barrel on/off, size compared to pm8). Changes since have been minor (almost no change in dm10, new grip frame on dm11, easier bolt removal in dm12, pretty much nothing on dm13)

I'd put my DM6 against any new style DM,the 6 is def the way to go and no eye pipe.
