Photos from today. Was driving out to Hood River Oregon to visit my girlfriend when I saw Buddy riding his bike on the shoulder of the road. I drove up a quarter mile or so until it was safe to pull off, then waited for him to come by. While he passed I asked if I could take his photo for a project I am working on and he said sure. When I asked where he was from, he said "Everywhere". His next stop was North Dakota. Originally from Portland Maine, he has been traveling America via bike for the past ten years. We talked for 10 minutes or so while I took his photo. Gave him twenty dollars and a shot of brandy and he was on his way.

And his ride

I lust after a 24L too. It's the only way to get subject isolation on FF at that wide. The only other option is the 17-40 but at f4 with the subject close you don't get it as well. Good stuff!

Is your g/f from Hood River? That's nearing my neck of the woods. If you're that close and want to come to The Dalles for some photo spots I'd sure do something with ya.

Yep, 24L shot, you shoula messed with it last weekend Rob! Seriously that lens is a portrait beast, nothing can compare to it.

And Fain she does, lets do it! I'll hit ya up in the near future and we can go from there! We're actually shooting later today a lil bit to create a new calling card for her modeling portfolio. She's been getting a lot of job requests lately/..well always which is sorta cool to see haha

I know my man. I'm thinking that I want to get better at some environmental portraits. I'm a HUGE fan of your portraits and I think that the 24L is a big piece to the puzzle. I'm a 100LMacro user myself. AMAZING lens, but the it needs to be on a FF for it to be useful at that focal length. So it's always on the 5D.

End of the year camera bag additions will be a 24L and an 85L. At that point, I don't need anything else (other than my 70-200) to do the work I like to do (family portraits, weddings, seniors, ect).

I guess my only question (since you have 2 of the three) would you find the more useful prime combo to be:

1. 24L & 85L

or

2. 24L & 50L???

And why if you have time to explain.

I can't wait to see you again brotha. We really need to spend more time chillin and gettin creative next time you're down, or if I ever get up there!

Haha yeah we do man! You and your sugar momma need to visit Portland on vacationand see how awesome it is. Raising your little fella in Portland would be a great place for a young boy to grow up hahaha

And I think with that selection personally I would go 50 and 24. Since the 70-200 would overlap the 85, yet you would have no middle ground lens between 24 and 70 and 24 and 50 gives you the best combo of the three. Worst case scenario you don't like the 50 you could just uptrade to the 85 if needed.

And thanks, my portraiture (this type of stuff) is my favorite work to produce. And the 24L is a huge factor in creating strong shots. I'll have to dig through my site to see how many it is used for, but I gurantee more shots are in my portfolio with that lens than any other lens.

Also making a new photo website tonight for myself. One just for my portraiture business so I can separate my seniors and what not from my documentary work. Livebooks has a rad deal where your second site is half off and comes with all the upgrades your original one has

natural light 95% of the time now. When working with my strobes I usually use a medium umbrella-ocobank and sometimes a medium-large strip soft box.

Thanks guys
Did some great eating in NYC, forgot the name of a lot of these places but for the most part they were pretty fancy restaurants or well known ones. Enjoy the photos of what I mowed on. Not everything is covered but a lot of it is. Had a lot of burgers because I freaking love em, not too adventurous of an eater when presented with the opportunity to eat what I know will be a great burger. Did get some street meat, but didn't get any photos:/
No real artistic merrit in these photos, but the point was just get the photos of the food....plus I was too excited to eat to really fire my artistic brain hahaha

overcooked and far form medium

Portland Timbers at their first MLS home game. Rainy as heck, cold, difficult shooting through the rain but think I got some cool shots.

cuts the log after every goal

Funny how they put up these signs whenever an opponent is injured.
