Bolt tip wear

Hey, was wondering if anyone else has experienced any wear on their bolt tip. Was having some jamming issues today (purple lights), but attributed it to my loaders battery dying. Spinning the wheel on the bottom seemed to get things going again.

After replacing the batteries the gun shot fine.

It wasn't until I got home and was cleaning up that I noticed the bolt tip was chewed up. It seems to stay on the bolt securely, but the edges are pretty raggedy.

Any thoughts? It seemed fine when I checked it last night, but I suppose I could've missed it.

Also any way to avoid this?

Here's some pictures.

That's the first I've seen of it too but the soft tips are eventually supposed to wear down...how much paint have you put through your Etha?

no damage that I see. The top/bottom look a little beat up, but nothing that would effect the springs action. There's a good amount of silver stuff too (on both sides) that rubs off on my fingers. I'm assuming that's from the spring rotating on the bolt face or something.

The only weird thing I notice is that one end of the spring slides freely over the bolt, you can just drop it on. The other end is a little tighter, it'll fall on too but rubs on the way down.

Not sure if that means anything. The guns been performing great thus far.

I bought it used, so it supposedly had a case or two through it. I've put about 4 personally.

The spring is the only thing inside there that could do that. My spring slides freely regardless of which end I slide onto the bolt. Spring very well could be your issue.

^Like said before it is most likely the spring so when you take it apart give a good look at the spring and see how it looks

Out of curiosity (and not that it means anything), does your spring fit over the bolt the same either way, or does one side seem to fit 'better' than the other?

According to the animation here, the spring doesn't even touch the bolt. Just paint, detents and the body.

If you have put 20 to 30 cases through your etha it could just be natural wear the soft tips are very soft on paint but will wear down over time if i were you i would replace it and then see if it goes bad quickly.

Taking a closer look, I found some wear in front of the feed neck, maybe this has something to do with it? I know anno wears over time, but it seems to be happening rather quick. Kind of tough to see in the pics, but it's the top mark in the first picture, top right in the second. You should be able to make out both detents and the feed neck opening in the first picture. The mark is right at the front left (gun facing you) of the feed neck opening.

Is this normal wear? Your brother see anything similar Invert?

I've never seen anything like that before Sherlok if I were you I would contact Nicky T as soon as possible and tell him to take a look at these pictures and see if he knows what is happening because that even looks like something could be rubbing unnecessarily.

Hey Sherlok,

Thanks for the PM; i know that Jack has already replied to you directly but I thought that others could appreciate the insight too

Occassionally we see bolt springs that are a tighter fit around the bolt at one end than the other. If you have a spring that fits this description; ensure that the tighter end is on the bolt. This will alleviate the chance of the bolt spring chipping the rubber tip.

If you have followed the above advice about putting the tighter end of the spring onto the bolt, then you can alleviate things further by rubbing a smear of grease around the bolt tip prior to playing so reduce the chance of the Spring ever catching it.

This works pretty well. I had the same issue you where having with bolt tip wear and mine actually ended up coming off from the bolt when I was playing.

The reason my bolt tip was wearing off though was because my spring was a little worn. I contacted PE about it and they sent me a new spring and recommended putting a little grease on the bolt tip. So far it has been working wonders!
