Martin's characters are static and unlikable, even the ones I'm supposed to care about. The plot is stagnant; little to nothing happens in the entire first third of the book. I bet if he spent less time telling me useless details about what people were eating, wearing, or how they smelled, he could have been done the book 200 pages sooner.

I'll finish the book. I did buy it. But I won't be all too giddy to pick up the next one.

If you didn't like Game of Thrones, likely you won't like any of the sequels. It's really his best work. He gets more derivative and his storytelling becomes more drawn out. He also throws in cliffhangers like he's going to finish his next novel next week and not five years from now.

Hater by David Moody.

Never heard of it before, but when the book store didn't have my next Malazan book, I made an impulse buy off the 'Staff Picks' wall. It's pretty meh so far. Reminds me a lot of M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening, only with assaults/murders rather than suicides.

Not all the way through it yet, but if it turns out to be the plants I'll be upset.

I am on the last book of The Dark Tower series. Hands down the best books I have ever read and probably ever will read.

While waiting for Palahniuk's Damned to come out, I'm again looking for random authors to try and keep me sated. Hater just didn't do it for me, so I went and picked up Enter Player One by Ernest Cline and I have to say.. it is satisfying every bit of nerd in me. Definitely worth checking out.

I also picked up Dust of Dreams by Steven Erikson but I know I'll prolong it for as long as possible, being the second to last Malazan book.

On a side note, has anyone read anything by Max Berry? I read the synopsis and sample of his book Machine Man and I think it may be up my alley.

Mortality Bridge by Steven Boyett. Dante, Greek Mythology and Faust all mixed into a good read.

Halfway through A Dance with Dragons. It's hard trying to power through novels during the school semesters. I want to just be a freeloading hobo who gets paid to read.
