Yeah, I didn't mean that some bolts plain wouldn't work. It's just that the mod has no effect on some bolts.

So just drill some holes behind the first ones, which will open up the inner dump chamber section.

That might work but you can't go too far back or the rear guide o-ring wont seal when the bolt is back. Also the inside will have to be smooth or it will shred the guide o-rings.

Well obviously. Just find out how long the openings are on HE bolts and match that length.

I'm doing this mod on a couple of guides along with making them adjustable. I am also doing a couple of guides with just the low pressure mod. I want to see the difference as there will be a little more air volume with just the low pressure mod.

just do the math. when you do the adj lp guide you need to plug in front of the adj rod, the adj rod and oring wont hold the air.

You get the extra air volume from the guide shaft, not the tip. I put arb mods on my guides anyway though. Already got 2 guides done and one almost. Still got one I haven't started on.

It's not adjustable on the ones I've done now but I have done an adjustable arb rod before. Just drilled into the tip, tapped it, drilled and tapped into a 5/16 dowel rod covered in jb weld, and used a piece of a screw to put into the dowel rod. It basically just screwed into the tip.

I thought you said adj lp guides. I've done several of those and you need to plug in front of the adj rod or air will escape through the back of the shaft....the guide rod and oring don't hold the air. Just in case anyone tries to do those

Oh. I misunderstood. I did my adjustable mod like the one cluff did. I used jb weld to set the grub screw in the back of the shaft so it is not adjustable from that end. It does seal off the back of the shaft and it is still adjustable at the other end of the grub screw and it is still kinda free floating so it doesn't have to be perfect. Doing it that way you loose a little space inside the shaft for the grub screw so it's not as low pressure as a non adjustable guide but it's still lower pressure. I was hoping that it would allow for the low pressure shot and by making the guide adjustable I was hoping to keep efficiency. Basically my hope was to find a way to keep efficiency and gain the smoother low pressure shot. I don't have a ready supply of air to test but I will do a little experimenting when I'm done.

Just got to do some messing around. I used three different guides. Guide 1 was stock HE guide. 2 was low pressure mod'd hybrid guide. 3 was adjustable length and low pressure mod'd guide. I should start by saying I'm using a Nasty nxt with eigen bolt, ndz ulp can, solenoid vent mod, manifold high flow mod, ipr mod, and I shaved a little off the back of the bolt sleeve to move the guide and bolt forward a little. Dwell was 9 with input of about 160 with a virtue board. Guide 2 was at least 25 fps faster than the stock. I was able to set the length of the 3rd guide to about 1/16th an inch longer than the second guide and still shoot about the same velocity. This leads me to believe I could gain the benefits of the low pressure mod and not loose as much efficiency with the adjustable length since the bolt would seal faster on the return stroke and still maintain the velocity gains of doing the low pressure mod. I should also say that both hybrid guides have 3/8" arb mods as well and they both were hollowed out using a 9/32" drill bit.

Doh!! I nicked the inside #12 o ring groove. Drill was slightly off center and came through the wall. Did I trash my bolt guide?

You might be able to patch it with jb weld but getting it smooth enough to seal and not throw off the tolerances might be tough.
