That's not a bad idea, TBH. I could even get her a cheap tv so she would have a better way to watch Netflix, not on the 11 inch screen.
Which is why I wanted to get at least a 15 inch screen in the first place.
And it gives her an excuse to buy hdtv. She's rocking a 20 inch box with built in dvd player right now lol

You've also got the Samsung (11.6") for $249 (ARM processor, so it's not currently compatible with Netflix, but I'm confident they'll resolve that) - I've got this one
Then you have the Acer (11.6") for $199
Have her mess around with Google docs first, though. She won't be installing any local programs like Office on a Chromebook.

Shooter, get a chromebook. for college applications and nothing else it is easily the best option.
you can do most microsoft office **** on open office or the google equivalent
My concern is like the required computer classes. The books are wrote for like excel.

Have you done the Birthright trip thing to Israel? my lady friend just got on a plane to NYC and she is leaving tomorrow. seriously sounds like an amazing experience and i was kind of curious if it is like a religious thing or a kind of see the country/party up type thing. she has not done anything jewish since she was little and went to a catholic college so it would be hilarious if it ends up being all religious and stuff.
Any name brand laptop you find on Amazon/Newegg/Tigerdirect/Bestbuy clearance will run office just fine.
