'll tell you about punk rock: punk rock is a word used by dillitante's and ah... and ah... heartless manipulators about music that takes up the energies and the bodies and the hearts and the souls and the time and the minds of young men who give what they have to it and give everything they have to it and it's a... it's a term that's based on contempt, it's a term that's based on fashion, style, elitism, satanism and everything that's rotten about rock'n'roll. I don't know Johnny Rotten but I'm sure... I'm sure he puts as much blood and sweat into what he does as Sigmund Freud did. You see, what sounds to you like a big load of trashy old noise is in fact the brilliant music of a genius, myself . And that music is so powerful that it's quite beyond my control and ah... when I'm in the grips of it I don't feel pleasure and I don't feel pain, either physically or emotionally. Do you understand what I'm talking about? Have you ever felt like that? When you just couldn't feel anything and you didn't want to either. You know? Like that? Do you understand what I'm saying sir?

Just because somethings mainstream doesnt mean it sucks. If one of your beloved bands became mainstream, would you stop liking them? If so, you were never a true fan, just some kid who wants to be cool, so you go against anything mainstream.

Look at modest mouse with the song float on. People like them but when they were on TRL and VH1 countdowns nobody said a thing.

Other bands go mainstream and people care. Why is that?

Punk is not a gerne, it is a way of life. I guess i offended quite a few people here. I love going to shows and hanging out with other punk kids.
I don't like mainstream because it takes away from the whole scene. While I was at the Monster Squad, Lower Class Brats, and Casualties show the other week, George of the Casualties was right next to me for like 20 minutes, no big deal. Now try to go to a Good charlotte show, or greenday and see if they will do that, no theyr'e too good for the punks anymore.
It's not that i don't like mainstream, it's just not punk.
BootstheGreat- I'm Sorry what you think, but NOFx and Rancid are far from the mainsteam, maybe more than others but far from it.
whiteshadow- I know it is lars frederiksen and the bastards, just didn't know how to spell it off the top of my head. and no, i'm not really into punk at all, just a couple shows a weekend, political action, and the likes, but no, i'm not punk. and how is it that people like me keep music from evolving? If you haven't noticed over the last 5 years, punk has totally changed.
Amazing that there is this much hatred on these boards.

Billie Joe Armstrong doesn't hang out in the audience because he would be mobbed.
