The thing about BYOC is their prices, $180 for two DIY pedals you can't test before buying isn't really saving any money, they're more for people wanting to learn or have fun I think. I've got the skills that they would be a snap, assuming the components are of quality and they're true clones (or close to). I could see spending $50 to build my own script phase 90... I love the idea of having a board of plain, generic looking pedals, but not when boutiques with warranties are comparable in price.

No, they're priced that way for a reason. They're a popular circuit that's been tried and proven. They give accurate values with better quality components than the originals, and they are priced very well for it. Do you want to pay $250 for a Univox Superfuzz that's 3x your age and not guaranteed to work for another 5 years?

Honestly I think they're some of the best clones on the market, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better collection for better prices.

Where do they say anything about a 5 year warranty? This is all I could find from their manuals. Assuming their information is correct, the warranty is void the moment you begin assembly. I understand the point that they're cheaper and allegedly the same or "improved" components, but there's no guarantee, and you'd need an original anyway to see if your ear agrees that they're the same. You'll pay more for a branded pedal from a shop and may have difficulty finding what you're looking for, but you've got a better chance of being able to return it if you get screwed. It's always a gamble to an extent.

Warranty:
BYOC, LLC guarantees that your kit will be complete and that all parts and components
will arrive as described, functioning and free of defect. Soldering, clipping, cutting,
stripping, or using any of the components in any way voids this guarantee. BYOC, LLC
guarantees that the instructions for your kit will be free of any majors errors that would
cause you to permanently damage any components in your kit, but does not guarantee
that the instructions will be free of typos or minor errors. BYOC, LLC does not
warranty the completed pedal as a whole functioning unit nor do we warranty any of the
individual parts once they have been used. If you have a component that is used, but
feel it was defective prior to you using it, we reserve the right to determine whether or
not the component was faulty upon arrival. Please direct all warranty issues to:
sales@buildyourownclone.com This would include any missing parts issues

Edit: All that said, there's no denying they have happy customers and a great reputation, and I still want to build one. At times I hate being so frugal, especially with music gear. I spend at least an hour every day playing, but it's still difficult convincing myself to spend a few hundred here and there. It almost killed me spending $1100 on a guitar earlier this year, but I feel like I've already gotten my money's worth...when I first started playing, I worked a summer job reffing and used every dime of it to buy a Les Paul Studio in that translucent wine finish. Beautiful guitar, I had crazy buyer's remorse and returned it a week later, lol.

Nice.
Is the Ernie Ball Volume Pedal a bad choice for a volume pedal?
I've read good and bad, the bad being it cuts the signal strength down quite a bit because of the tuner out

Hallo geetar thread. Damn, the OT **** has really slowed down.

My sister actually got me a BYOC octave fuzz pedal for Christmas that I still haven't built yet (it's at home, I've been neglecting it since I've been at school). I may try and build it while I'm home this weekend, so I'll post back with results when it's done.

I've always wanted an octave fuzz... If you don't like it, send it to me

I got really lucky on a SKB pedalboard at a thrift shop the other day. Got it, some cables, and CS3 and a Wylde Wah for $125.

So I got home and the mods started.
I hate IEC power cables and perma attached cables so I lopped off the power cable and put in a PowerCON.

Added the multipin connector and reworked the built in patchbay for my needs.

Then tore apart my amp and added in PowerCON I/O and a multipin connector.

So now 3 cables gets my rig up and running.
Plug PowerCON into the amp, then out of the amp to the board. Plug the multipin line in and that carries the signal from the board to the input of the amp, then the FX loop send and return, and the footswitch for the built in reverb. Plug the guitar into the board and you're good to go.

edit: also dropped a 12AX7 on the floor last night, so off to GC I go today to see if they have any cheapo's I can use until I can buy some good ones.

I'm probably going to snag a good soldering iron here soon and start buying the kits I've always wanted. I have a lot of downtime and I have zero inspiration towards playing ATM so I might as well buff my sound on the cheap. Herb, lemme know how you end up liking that octave fuzz.

Also looking into possibly a Mark IV. I know, I know, I've been anti-Mesa for a long while but I'm warming up to them a little. Especially since I have the ability to snag one for a pretty good price. But idk. I sorta really want a Diezel but I don't that ever happening haha

*EDIT* Nice deal on the board

So I took all the tubes out of my Classic 18 when I did the custom work to it, and now I don't remember which sockets the EL84's were in and which the 12AX7's were in. Any way to tell? They look like the same exact sockets.

They are the same sockets. The closet socket to the input jack is always V1. V2 is next and the other two will be your power tubes.

The studio section with Tom Petty is nuts. Joe Walsh shared similar views in his GC Session, spoke a lot about live recording vs. more modern recordings where studios take samples and clean everything up.

The RG is sold. I never played the damn thing much, but since it's gone I'm itching to play it again. ****ing figures LOL.

Getting a fender tattoo tomorrow, just the F in the logo. I like fender, and I like tattoos. Why not.
