Price has no factor in the marker being high end, design does. You could have a STBB selling for $2000, and it wouldn't be high end, it would just be a beginner level marker that no one would ever buy. The Etek is essentially a less fancy, stripped down ego with a different name and a lower price tag, so why wouldn't you consider it high end??

This is one of the funniest statements I've ever read on this forum.
Please sir, go away.

Sorry for the double post here guys, but what would change if this was geared towards woodsball? ... short answer is nothing. Speedball markers can be used in the woods and vice versa, they just happen to get more bang for your buck because of the cost of making a marker that looks realistic.

^^^ exactly, a marker does not function any different if it is next to a tree or an inflatable bunker. it does what it does
i have many reasons for steering players away from milsim when they start but the largest one is you can get more performance for the same money out of something that is not looks oriented

Nice thread mate - ignore the haters its a good spot for new players to have a nice read and learn some stuff on their own at the same time.
You put more work into this than I put into my actual job on a monthly basis.

As an axe user (honest opinion, not fanboy, I've used better and worse), it seems rather off putting to say it's simply a larger mini. When it first released? Maybe, but now that they've upgraded the stock board and is much more user friendly, why?
As for the Rotor, NO, you are not going to be buying one for 150$ NEW. The only way you're going to be getting less than 170$ is from a b/s/t or a local store closing out sale. Go check ANSgear, who as I've watched, pretty much hold most of the lowest prices and sales to be found. Hell, they even have a few colored ones that are CHEAPER than the stock black one, and even they are 179$. I would love to know what site you've found where they sell for anything less, especially if they price gouge on other items as well.
Also, Just as a question for you, but why (besides annoyingly proprietary orings) do you feel it's easier for a new person to tear down a Tippman 98 than something (Axe,SLG, Rail, Etek, etc.) where all you need to do is take out the bolt, clean it, and re-lube it? In all the years I've owned them, I've never had to do any more than possibly run a swab through the bolt housing to clean out old lube and put some fresh o-rings and lube back on the bolt. If they can't do something as simple as that without "breaking" something, they shouldn't even be thinking about upgrading to begin with. I find, even when they were new to me, that it was SOOOO much easier to maintain my SLG, and more currently, my axe, than it ever was to maintain tippmanns that i had to tear down for inept friends, pretty much on a regular basis.
OH, and as for the whole GOG/SP thing, you do know (since you've been around so long) that you can pretty much BUILD a "new" Ion from readily available parts? And most of those parts were made BEFORE they crashed SP and turned into GOG. Simply having a biased opinion on a company doesn't mean it shouldn't be listed, especially when it really isn't that hard at all for someone who isn't completely lazy to find parts in the case the company DOES die (again).

they changed all of 21 parts between the two markers (thats everything down to screw sizes) more parts changed from the PMR to the PRR, more parts changed from the 98 to the A5, more parts changed from the E1 to the G4 and yet all of those markers are considered the same internally, why should the axe be any different? Just because they changed the name does not make the marker completely different like empire would have you believe. If i go from a Honda civic DX to a Honda civic EX there are some pluses, but that doesnt make it a top fuel dragster either thats all im saying. really the only downfalls of the mini that they eliminated were the hall effects trigger and the size, everything else is still there, custom sized o-rings, non user friendly reg, non-changable ASA and a fat grip frame due to the air transfer tube. the two markers are much more the same than they are different

i never said tearing down a tippmann was easier than any of those, they have one of the worst tear downs in the industry, the clam shell is a terrible idea only surpassed by the ion
i always suggest spyder to new players because the tear down is simpler, theres more features and the maintenance is going to be almost identical to something like a etek

just because you can find parts on a BST NOW, doesnt mean you can forever, not to mention without parts in shops (they may be around you but not every player is around you) its a bad idea for a new player. so lets say we are a few years down the road from now, a new player gets an ion or ion clone on your suggestion. one day while playing, his trigger snaps in half. well he is done for the day because the field he is at does not carry parts. so on his way home, he stops at a shop, again, no luck. the shop either does not carry GOG or GOG has gone under. so he goes home, if GOG does happen to be around, he can probably find one online somewhere, if GOG is dead, well he is having a frustrating time sifting through BSTs probably not for a trigger, but for a whole parts ion just for the trigger and its costing him a lot more than he really should have to pay for it.
when SP went under everyone stopped making parts, and when GOG oppened not everyone started up production again, this is why there are not nearly as many parts out there for gog as there was SP, and of what was out there for SP when they were open (which was a lot) sites and fields have been selling off what is left, many to never get gog parts in. one of the largest shops in seattle (close enough to me) when i stopped in for a few small things was ding just that, so sure while i could have put a ion together (except for frame and body probably) out of the boxes of sp parts labeled 50% off!!!!! would it really matter? anything breaks down the road and im screwed
if you want to give money to a shady company that may or may not be here tomorrow go ahead, im not stopping you, but its a bad idea for a new player

Good, glad you responded in a informed manner. Checked all three of those sites, Rockstar has been out of stock for awhile and the ecrater one hasn't been updated in a month or so, meaning that's not really a trustworthy sale.
Honestly never heard of ebid before, looks promising, but again, looking at that specific seller (plus, it's essentially a different type of b/s/t without the t), he only has one or two of each one I saw, not necessarily the guaranteed stock that would be ideal, but noted.
