Not necessarily (I don't believe). It all comes down to ranking.

if you win d4, your team would become d3 ranked. you would get the reward of playing open with your team. or just play down on a d4 team like most others do. open is not as scary as it looks though

I do believe if you win the series that all the players on that team will have to bump to the next higher level. This would probably be best answered by Brent and Chris Raehl.

I think open is a lot more fun. I've never played any other division, I'm just going from watching games, but 12.5 and 10 is like night and day. So much more fun.

D5 is the beginner division, you would have to bump up to D4 after the season regardless...... Not sure about the D4 division though, this is the first year they have used the APPA classification. Would probably go by your APPA Status.....

The way I understand different series and how they come together in the APPA is that Raehl doesn't say who bumps and who doesn't. That is left to the people running the series. Raehl simply keeps track of it.

I think I remember one of the field owners specifically saying that the D4 winner bumps up to Open. Idk about D5 bumping to novice, but I'm pretty sure D4 goes to Open next season.

What about second place or third or the guy who played one time on the first place team. Or the guy that played twice on the second place team? Really, come next year certain people will try to sign up for a division they don't belong - whilst silently in the background b.s. will be called on them by the powers that be and suddenly they will be in the division they belong. That or they spread out like the clap amongst lower teams.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that it would be up to the SEPS officials as to whom would be made to move up. And before the 09 season started I thought that I either heard about or read somewhere that the top 3 teams in D4 must move up to open.

Appa
Allow me to inject some info from the APPA/ Event Promoters meeting at the extravaganza.
APPA is leaning towards a universal player points system, it will no longer force an entire team to move up a division unless they have played together for several events and acheived the same player points by doing so.
D-4 and D-5 will remain affordable entry, but trophy only divisions D-3 or Open will be the CASH PRIZE division and deter people with the skill to play open from cherry picking D-4.
I am NOT a SEPS official so this means nothing just putting it out there. None of this has been ironed out in details, it's just what's on the table for the future.
SEPS very well may choose to keep thier current format and use APPA for player ranking, tracking and scoring events. Give Brent, Mark, and KP some feedback on this, let them know what you think.

andy thats how mspa used to do it and i think that it should be that way. I am not calling out no team names, but you have at least 5 or 6 teams that should be in the open division, but the teams due to not playing any appa events and having no ranking choose to play novice. If i had it my way the top 4 teams in series points would have to move up in each division.

I agree with those who say there are several teams playing Novice that should be playing the Open division, but unfortunatly until the APPA rankings can some how do something about it teams will still be playing as Novice at events......
The Kings of Kaos could have technically played Novice this year, but the prizes are better in the Open division, and you get to play in 12.5.....A big difference!!!!!! So we decided to play Open..and I'm glad we did....We have gotten to play some great teams, and we were able to play with some of the Asylum guys.
Teams just need to be honest and ask themselves where they belong, and if that doesn't solve the problem then the promoters of the SEPS need to take action...... Just my thoughts on the matter

teams will never be honest and play where they belong for the most part. imo
there will always be sandbaggers.

That's exactly why I think the only Cash Prize division should be D-3/Open. Get nice trophies for the lower divisions. I've overheard too many players too many times say they stay in D-4 because there are more teams and they sandbag to win money. Almost every event this year paid as much or more for 1st place in D-4 as Open.
How many open teams would rather pay $300 entry and have a full $100 each entry go to prize money? Example: 12 teams thats $1200 split 50/30/20. You win it's $600 that covers your entry and most of your paint bill.
We can keep the entry low in the lower divisions to encourage growth.
Just my 2 cents.

Any custom setup for moving teams up can be used in appa. It won't change your rank overall but if a series changes your profile in their area of control for the events you have played in SEPS, from then on, the roster will only allow the player to be put on the roster if he qualifies.
