I don't think Romney OR Obama is going to fix the economy...
Neither Obama or Romney is going to fix the economy with what I have seen. Magazines and newspapers are going to go away soon. Stores like Gamestop are going to go away in the next 10 years. Establishments like that are on the verge of extinction with more and more people doing stuff online. Entire malls are closing due to no customers. These are nearly unstoppable changes that will hamper Americans with no replacement jobs on the horizon to people with those skill sets.
This changing America is likely a permanent change, (Obama predicted that?) because once magazines go away in favor of online PDF files or something similar, they aren't coming back. Now the people writing the articles may still have jobs, but the packers, paper supply companies, truck delivery men, all lose out. People who have stores open selling various goods that be found cheaper on Amazon will see their stores close for good. Now, the internet has been around for a while, sure, but as people become more savvy with it, and as kids grow up and replace the older people who still prefer to "go out and get things in person" this change will escalate.
Does anyone see a viable alternative to this changing landscape in America to keep jobs primarily designed at keeping Middle/Lower class citizens working and feeding their families? Maybe it's just me, but I foresee an America with far less retail stores and far more "same ol' looking buildings like many Science Fiction novels had predicted in the 1940-60's I suppose.
How uninteresting the world will be. Sometimes I feel like the 1900's was the peak of humanity in terms of creativity and social experimentation, never to again be challenged.

So youre saying that educated people with degrees, those who are smart and realize technology is taking over and learn to become sufficient in technology such as web design, IT, PR, QA, engineers, etc, etc, anyting relating to any form of technology are going to have a job but those who decided to drop out of high school or didnt push themselves to learn a skill that would be required to know in the future are gonna have a hard time? well imagine that!
In a technology driven world that is forever becoming more and more futuristic, it was only a matter of time before people with the skills that every single person in the entire world can do would no longer be needed. Time to adapt or die.

We do seem to be in the beginning stages of moving away from the industrial age, into the information age. Michael Barone touched on that this weekend. It talks politics, but thought it informative on where we are heading. Personally, I believe this new age, or what ever one wants to call it, will be wonderful and not something to dread. But obviously there could be strife for awhile in reaching it as some will look to cling to the old ways.

I agree, more central control of the economy isn't the answer.

The current system isn't capitalism, its crony-capitalism and unfair tax policy.

Do you ***** about milk men being a lost breed? How about ice delivery men? Do you lament carriage drives? Did all those people who worked at vinyl shops or radio factories starve?
Each and every category you listed is being phased out by a superior model. Printed media is being replaced because information is being pushed towards a much more mobile, instant form of media disbursement. Why should I go to Gamestop when I can download old games for a few dollars and save the trip?
Why pay for all that infrastructure to sell your wares, when a much more advanced, efficient model exists. Those people will find other industries to work in, they always have.

I personally like a hard copy of a magazine, book, etc. compared to a digital version. Will be sad when they start doing all of the books on kindle and ipad.

Yeah, I just can't read **** on a computer screen. I guess I'll be stuck printing articles/books out that I want to read.
OP mentioned gamestop, but I think they'll be dead due to different reasons. Although digital downloads is a part of it, public demand is still pretty high for hard copies of games. The thing that will eventually kill gamestop is the growing number of games that require online passes, making it essentially pointless for customers to purchase used games.
I agree with OP's assessment of the economic situation as well. Bush created this problem, but Obama's actions to fix it have not worked, and I do not think Romney's plans will do any better.

I hope toilet paper doesn't go digital. There are some sharp edges on those circuit boards.

I do like books on my phone due to being able to have a book or two in my pocket but I prefer books over stuff on a Kindle personally.
Imagine if everyone had every CD, movie and book on their ipod/pad/kindle/device of some sort? Soon people's houses and rooms will be the futuristic bland looking places we imagined years ago, brought to life.
Kind of ****ing dull looking if you ask me. Needs a shelf with books on it to give guests something to look at. Maybe an Angus Young poster on the wall.
As far as Gamestop goes - I think gamers will put up with the aggravation. Or just resort to Steam more often, which kills Gamestop already. But yeah, I don't see Obama or Romney doing a huge turnaround to the economy in the next 4 years, barring some sort of questionable maneuver which looked to harm us ever more long term - like printing out more money and doling it out to people.

I saw a picture of a bedroom that looked kinda like this, but less white, and more color. but it was really cool setup. had a little more furniture. the futuristic look can look badass if done right.

Nice thing is, people can still get that stuff if they want it, just like I can still get a record player and the records if I think they sound better.
I'll take technological progression with the option for older technology any day over older technology with no options for new stuff.
