what about separated/retired military teams? it would be more logical considering youd have more time.....and someone mentioned it that you would prolly have to fund it yourselves for the first couple years

If theyre in the area of a military pb team, I dont see it being a big issue that retirees and/or separated military play with them. Unless it affects the team support I.E., the base supports a military team and in fine print they mean currently serving. But thats TBD

It wouldn't be a base supporting it, it would be MWR supporting it. And if MWR is supporting it, retirees are authorized but those who separated are not.

Ok now that I am not deploying anymore it is now time for me to get back into the sport and the idea of starting a DOD/Joint Services team. Bottom line is if you are in the DC/MD/VA area and want to put a team together let me know ASAP.

I want to put a team together to play PSP in Jersey. Depending on the players ranking will determin the division we play. Pass the word and lets do this and show that the military can get down. The weekend of July 15th is when I would like to put a tryout on.

Word. There's 2 good fields right nearby. The Swamp and one in Big Bethel, where the housing is. Then Splatbrothers is about an hour away. Not to mention PEV's and Fox Brothers within driving distance.

Omar,

It is good to see you still kicking around this idea. Focus on Active Duty only right now any strap hangers (Retirees, Family Members, DA Civilians) will only muck up your progress. After you get your team established you may be able to include them in yourworks. I know the Drum Sports Director at MWR told me that they could only pay for the active duty folks hotels and entry costs when they were trying to get me to coach a Drum team.

The High Rollers are still a mainly Soldier team we do have a few Family members on our team and me (the Retiree/DA Civilian). MWR helps us out with field time and air (unofficially) because we volunteer coach their youth services program and usually Ref their events (few and far between).
Sam at the 2ID team and 7th Element is a great guy to know and has helped us out in the past with discounts on boards but other than that we pretty much pay our own way through.

I am still prepping the battlefield up at Drum for bigger and better things to come in paintball.

Good luck with everything,

Michael

Edit: Get the Installation Safety Office onboard with this early. Most Commanders are going to look for a Risk Assessment in the package somewhere, it is easier to get this knocked out first and that way you can show them you are thinking outside the box.

DSDM,

I remember you. I was stationed at drum and you were some help with this when my friend Chris brought the idea to Drum's MWR managers. I have made a lot of connections with people in the military and the industry. Now I just to put a team together.

Keep up the good work, let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I am deployed right now, but risk assessment paperwork type stuff is easy to do and email.

Michael

Sorry for wandering off, we just got internet in this joint.

The team started when they built the first true speedball field on Kadena Airbase, there's a Marine who's been here forever that's been keeping it alive and doing recruiting. The team is entirely privately funded. We don't have any official military stuff on our jerseys or in our name. Everyone just figures out pretty quick a team of Americans competing in Asia are probably military. Otherwise, we're working on getting more love from MWR and we get out there and mostly run the field every Sunday.

I hope the mil team stuff is going well!

*Edit* - Just so they feel loved, we did have a mainland Japanese and an Okinawan with us to supplement the lines. Otherwise, all U.S. Servicemen stationed overseas.

I'm sure in the guard it will be a little easier. We tried it with active duty soldiers and it was going to be a pain in the butt. We had offical jerseys made (paid outta our own pocket for the jerseys also) and had secured sponsorship packages that were dependant on the team offically being backed by the Army. It fell through because DA thought it was better to "persue another presence in the paintball community." 2 weeks after we got the notice of this, Tippman released the Alpha Black marker.
