Now we have Costa, Smith and a bunch of no namers who suck. Phil Costa is hurt though. Not sure if I want him to come back either. I remember like 10 times last year Romo would be reading the defense and calling an audible or tell Dez what route to run and then would unexpectedly get whacked in the face with the football.

Most NFL players put up bull**** numbers with suspect range of motion and form, and a lot of times people don't bother to mention that ****. I remember hearing about RG3 supposedly squatting like 545 then I watched the video and he's got this weird shoulder harness thing loaded up with plates and he's holding on to these handles on the front posts of the rack and using them as assistance when he stands up.

DGAF if he's strong, that will never be a real squat.

Yes, I agree. I am especially quick to discount college numbers, college numbers are much worse in terms of being inflated, IMO.

Also the world record for a drug free, shirt free bench is like 710. So its kind of unlikely. On the other hand, Larry Allen is strong as ****.

715, although Eric Spoto has a VERY good change of breaking that record.

I thought that was Mendelson and that Mendelson did it in a meet that did not test. I read that James Henderson has the record in a meet that tests.

I wanted to post this when you mentioned the great linemen of the linemen and early 2000s earlier

...exactly. Mendelson has the record at 715, and Eric Spoto has a good chance of breaking that record.

If my research is correct, the New England Bench Press Class (the meet where Mendelson set his 715 record), is/was ran by 100% RAW, which tests all of its meets.

Mendelson actually said that he could feel his humerus bending as he lowered the bar. That is ****ing awesome.

It really bums me out that defenders basically aren't allowed to play defense anymore in the NFL.

I'm not saying Graham is better, but he's just as good. I mean, you're talking about an immense amount of splitting hairs when trying to decide which one is better, but for my money I'll still take Gronk. Dudes a beast in the run game.

As for Clady, thats exactly why Shanny drafted him. He was "raw" in pass protection, but he was a ****ing road grader in the run game. He gave up 1 sack his rookie year against Julius Peppers in like week 14 or 15 IIRC. 2009 he was flawless, and same in 2010. 2011 is where his numbers got skewed because Tebow would try to keep plays alive so long guys would eventually get by and get to him if he didnt get rid of it. Which is why the stat line for last year about sacks is wildly inflated for the Broncos oline last year.

Yea, Darren Sproles supposedly squatted 700+ lbs, then it was found to have been a "safe squat" AKA on a smith machine AKA **** you it doesnt count. Sure, its impressive, but dont go flaunting it. Its like this kid I know who became a C.O., and started lifting/saucing. He claimed hegot 385 on the bench @ 160 lbs. Now, I've seen small guys put up some serious numbers, but this kid is a classic quarter repper, and I've seen him lift, and there is no way in hell he's touching 3 plates, let alone 385. But yea, people will do that all the time, exaggerate numbers in the weight room. Its the NFL, we know you're strong, stop disrespecting guys who lift for the sole purpose of putting up as much weight as humanly possible and nothing else.

IIRC, Anthony Montgomery (former defensive tackle for the Redskins) squatted 722 in competition. Don't know if this was single ply, multiply, or what.

EDIT: It was Philip Daniels. I'll try to find the actual numbers.

Actually, I think that's raw. None of Titan's suits look like that; just their singlets.

The funny thing is a lot of them aren't nearly as strong as you think. I think I was reading an artical once about Walter Jones (was a seahawks tackle at the time, and was regarded as one of the best in the league). I think in the article he said he only benched like 360ish. I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure this is the case. They aren't training to bench 500 pounds, they are training to hold off defensive linemen. They lift weights in training, yes, and some of them are very strong in the weight room, but a lot aren't really either.

Usually its running backs claiming godly squat numbers, I think a lot are BS. The lineman usually claim the high benches and a lot of those are BS, too. For Larry Allen I've heard it enough times, plus a 350 pound man benching over 6 seems possible to me. Plus I think he had the record for most reps of 225 at one point too, so he's definitely pretty damn strong.

So if Brees doesn't throw a touchdown tomorrow, what's the over/under on the amount of damage done to the city of New Orleans?
