Curiosity..

i was at the gym with a friend the other day, and we were talking about fat loss.

What do you guys say would be the quickest way, with no regard for muscle gain, growth, definition etc..

..to shed body fat off as quickly as possible?

this is in no regard to strength training, we're talking for instance a dude that just wants to lose say 15-20 pounds of fat the fastest way possible. my friend thinks you could lose body fat the fastest by:

cutting calories to a healthy level, eating only healthy foods, no late night carbs, high protein diet.. blah blah etc. etc. Along with: half hour of HIIT cardio pre-breakfast every morning, along with running/swimming/playing a sport or just some kind of cardio later in the day.

My point against his was you should still have at least a 3 day split of lifting, since muscle growth will help burn fat off of you.

What would ya say would be the quickest way to melt fat off your body?

example: say someone who is... 6'0, and 180 lb's. This person wants to go from maybe like 16-17% bodyfat down to about 11% or 12%.

what do you guys think would be the quickest way to do so?

my point exactly.

his point in the most basic way to say it is:

cut calories, eat as healthy as possible, and do as much cardio as possible. no need for lifting.

Most times the number of calories burned via new muscle is grossly overstated. You'll hear between 15 and 30 cals per lb of muscle, when its closer to 4 to 8. It's insignificant when you factor in how much you have to eat to gain muscle effectively.

I think it gets exaggerated due to the fact that people base their fat loss more on looks rather than actually finding their percentages.

What I mean is, you can grow muscle until it becomes more visually defined without losing much fat. You can be at 15% and look kinda chubby, then start lifting and start looking good and still be at 14-15%.

but if you are putting on weight in muscle to look more defined, wouldnt your percentage do down so long as you are not putting on more fat?

ex. you weight 100 lbs with 10 lbs of fat (10% BF%) you put on 100 lbs of muscle. You now weigh 200 lbs. If you did not put on any fat, your BF% would now be 5%.

You would be hard pressed to gain that much muscle without putting on any fat.
