So anyway I wanted to start a thread to discuss innovative ideas for our quests, whether they be completely new ideas or just using existing parts from other manufacturers to mod the quest. What does the quest need to make it "better" and how can it be accomplished. Better is very subjective but I'm interested in everyone's opinions and ideas.
heres one:
Ive heard the question asked a few times and even asked it myself: What are my feedneck options? If I use a rotor it leaves a gap.
The critical feedneck is getting harder and harder to find and re-threading other feednecks to fit is not really cost effective. Well today while watching a milling video of someone milling down a cocker pressed in feedneck to fit a new ego clamp feedneck I wondered if this would work on the quest. I'm not the first to think of the idea as my search turned this up. This hasn't been brought up recently so I figured I'd repost the idea. I haven't ironed all the details but the ego feedneck is 7/8ths I.D. and you need 14/32nds left exposed to bolt the ego feedneck up to.
pretty "basic"(lol
if you have a lathe and skills) way of doing this is to turn a piece of aluminium down. first section with a length of .150 O.D .900, then step down the OD to .875(7/8) and cut to a length of .438(14/32)(length of stepped down section). The ID for the new feedneck insert needs to be .735. The insert will then need to be bonded in to the existing feedneck spot and the ego feedneck bolted on. Boom- ego feedneck on your quest! If you ever need to remove it you can just heat the adhesive up to the point of failure and break it loose, it's really not hard to do
